If you have an excessive lifestyle where you need cooks, maids, gardeners,outside house labor, etc, then India is no longer as cheap as people think. But, oh, if you live a normal life where most of the time you cook at home, perhaps eat out twice a week, you do not rely on maids, etc, then ofcourse India is quite a cheap place in terms of the costs. And ....

What ??? So, you make your life's decisions based on "society" or some "social ladder" ??? Sorry to say, you seem to have absolutely no understanding of what life should ideally be in order for one to live happily. If you are chasing a "social ladder" you will keep running aimlessly and you would never be happy. Anyways, it is your life and you make your choices and you meet the results of the choices that you make.
And regarding India, it the most diverse country in the world in terms of everything, be it food, culture, language, weather, etc, etc, so in various parts of India, you would get different experiences. In order to know if you would like to live in India, you need to first visit various parts of India. But, oh, in terms of food, entire of India is heaven, with each part of India having it's own cuisine, tastes & flavours. I personally know foreigners who live in India only and only because of the food !!! If your aim is to find out more about YOURSELF and WHO YOU ARE, then there is no better country than India, for that !!!
