Should I keep users followed or remove them after a while?

I currently have an account that is following 8k and has 9k followers. Should I unfollow everyone or would that be a bad move? I'm curious because recently I have been literally getting no followbacks, and in fact losing followers.

Unfollow all: i can tell you what happens in 24h : you will loose 2-3% followers

you will keep the inactive followers, the active will UNfollow back

I use unfollowerstats.com to keep track of those who dont follow back and new unfollowers. Prune the tree that way, otherwise as tk said, you'll lose good quality followers for no reason

Already pruning with FLiker do you follow back your new followers btw?

Fair enough, should I make sure I follow all new followers back btw? (that aren't already followed through FL botting but come from some place else for example)

I do follow back new followers unless they're obvious bots or clearly counterproductive to my objectives with the account. My philosophy is that you don't lose a thing by providing them a follow especially if they followed you first. Some folks have the idea that they should have 20k and only follow a few, but as far as I can tell, there's no real advantage to doing so and its better PR anyway, as you dont look like a douchbag later by unfollowing a bunch of people who followed you first or returned the favor in the past. SOme people are impressed by that, i suppose, but if i see someone who does that i wont follow in the first place. Also I have the idea that my followers are smarter anyway :)

doh- i forgot to tell you my scheduling- i follow a bunch and let them sit for at least 4 days, often longer. I have the luxury of not being constrained by the limits, so i can let them sit for longer if necessary. Remember that most people are doing this for fun or entertainment and may not be a daily user at all, often those viewing habits are to log in once every 3-5 days. That doesn't apply to everyone of course, but there's a good argument that the majority of consumers have a similar non-daily schedule.

Only 2-3%? That's nothing. I'd expect more taken that the followers are active, real users and not fake ones.

Maybe it would be a good idea to keep the mutual followers and unfollow only those who don't follow back after 3-4 days. There's a daily following limit of 1k, OP has 8k followers, so it would be enough to regularly unfollow those who don't follow back. It would also look more natural to have a following count fluctuation in the hundreds (1k max) than going from 8k to zero with a not too big account.

in my experience, that 2 or 3% tk has, is more like 20-30% in my account. It likely depends on your vertical, esp if if the demo skews younger, creating more churn

I'd start by unfollowing the ones that don't follow you. Then I'll unfollow some of those that seem less active so they prolly won't notice and therefore, won't unfollow back.

Don't do everyone but unfollow until you have like 1k-2k. following 9k and having only 8k followers doesn't look too good when people look at your profile. most of them won't follow back if they see that.
