Should I grab this risky opportunity?

Ok right now I'm serving the army.
I was also asked to design a website of theirs - it's a government website for the army.

I enticed by the link juice and how much it would help one of my site's SERPs.

But still, it's a government site and I don't know if it would have any.. well.. crime to hide an anchor text or perhaps a hyperlinked picture to my site.

What do you guys think?

Don't risk it. No reason to get dishonorably discharged over some really dumb stuff like this.
 
why would the government ask a soldier to build a website

Don't hide it, proudly add your link as "designed by..". If they do not want that remove it. If they ask you WTF is that link show them a couple of edu/gov sites that have the "designed by..." and say "this is a normal procedure but will remove it if you do not want it there".

or you could hide a bunch of links in the code and prove them that a BH is a BH, whether if he's a soldier or a construction worker. :D

Well, it's not a "main" website. But a section of the military website regarding a special unit.
And because my background has some IT knowledge, the superiors asked me to be in charge of a basic web design (HTML and stuffs).

dude itll get checked by like 50 others before it goes live ... and if you try to slip links in .. it would be bad i can just think of the things they might try ... tresspassing ? theft of government property? dishonorable discharge?

dishonorable discharge if you got one would be just about a death sentence .. you cant work with or for any company that has contracts with the us gov ... or in otherwords no IM no fast food no walmart no NOTHING(everybody works with uncle sam) .. the only job you could get is a janitor in some imigrants mom and pop shop making 50c an hour...
 
ye i am also agree with it do not loose the trust of the people with whom you are working :) money comes money goes but trust is the main thing

Do it. If anyone complains you can just say you thought it was okay (claim ignorance) and remove it.
