I have enough good content up my sleeve to either start a 10-site PBN or 20-property Web2.0 network and keep them updated with one post per week for a year. Should I build the PBN or the Web 2.0s? What’s currently more effective?

If you never managed to Hold a Domain over 1 Year a PBN is nothing for you. Since you will loose all your work before you even profit from it :)

2.0 Gives boost but is not as strong as you would expect. Also only 2.0 Linking to your site is not good you need the mix.

I don’t quite understand what you are saying here man
Depends on your budget. Good PBN domains don't come cheap.
Do you think a 10-site network is enough for low competition keywords? Or should I simply buy the links from the marketplace?

There are options to buy one off payments for PBN links from the Marketplace ( numerous sellers ) or there are sellers like @splishsplash who do the monthly rental option.

I tried marketplace pbns. I tried 6 different sellers over the course of time ending with a seller who charged 12 dollars a link and was completely disappointed with them all.
With the more expensive link I was told it could take 4 months to see results.
With my own pbns I see results in 4 weeks.

Now I build my own pbns and see results. If you want it done right do it yourself.

I would say you need both

Web2.0 and other links for diversity and the Pbn for the sheer power and boosts.

Together you can move keywords

Thanks for the suggestion.

I know that I need both, but which one should I invest more money and time into?

PBN is vastly more powerful.

Web 2.0s are still good part of SEO link building and effective

If you're serious aboht ranking and you want to go the blackhat route, then PBN's are the only way to go.

What is your goal? What are you going to get from building PBN's or Web 2.0 projects? Because it's hard to answer on your question, if not to know your goal. Don't the reason of weekly updates of 10 PBN sites. If your niche has high competition, 10 pbn links is nothing, 20 web 2.0 also.

For which keywords are you fighting for? Big or small one? Tbh, blasting PBN's on some micro niches might waste their power, so it's ok, to do web 2.0 otherwise pbn

Low-comp keywords, but it's not a micro-niche site

for long term its better to build your own PBN as then you have full control over it. with web 2.0 you never know if it gets removed.
you can do both though to mix it up, its always better than just using 1 method.
