I want to hop back in as I really enjoyed it back in the day. I see posts claiming that SEO is dead, this and that.
But I would like a response to as if it is still worth getting into and freelancing for it.
I don't care about the money, I would just like to know with these new Google updates, SEO is still worth it for local-based companies.

So should I steer in the direction of local SEO then for small businesses that thrive on local customers?If you have some edge like real business, you're welcome. Even a pizzeria that is small will benefit from local SEO.
Otherwise, for affiliate stuff do social media. Much, much easier on nerves. You wouldn't believe. Even your mother can sell on Facebook. On Google? Forget it.
Imagine someone ranking a store to sell one pair of shoes that is used. It's this level of thinking. Ranking which is huge effort just to sell a stupid single pieces.
