Hi all, could do some advise please

I wants to start my own shopify Print on Demand Store (dog/charity/rescue niche)

I wanted to name it after my family dog who passed away few years ago, or rather brand it in his name some how...His name was Hooch.

Hooch.com was taken of course, among others. So I came up with hoochy4me.com or hoochtopdog.com and bought the domains.

Now I'm having second ideas....

are these good names or should I think of something else?

should I stick to a more sounding dog niche name??

Also should I be starting off with branding/logo or concentrate on that later?
suggestions welcomed,thank you.

Your domain (brand) will not matter very much when starting out, that is where a lot of people end up making expensive mistakes. Nobody cares about your logo, business card, t-shirt, display ads, etc. Because you are an unknown.

You can turn any name into a brand, look at Google or Yahoo, even Geico. None of those make any sense for what they are.

yes my thoughts too!.... But lets say on IG or FB..wouldn't people be more inclined to except or click on your link/profile if its more related to the niche your doing? how to market with a name that sounds nothing like your niche!?

I like the idea of your pre made dropshipping niches, great for a newbie like me, as for the web hosting and vps accounts...I'm lost!!!!

This is when I gets overwhelmed and I could just give up,because I really don't understand a lot of this yet!

I like your both domains, they could be better but it's 2018. and it's hard to find almost perfect names.
So, choose one and make it into a brand, if possible. Good luck! :)

Thank you for your reply :-)... Any ideas yourself of a good name with hooch in it? ... Thanks again and all the best to you too

Both domains can be branded, I guess. Almost anything can. And I love how you named them by your dear pet.

You can go for "dog" something instead but, that's the main keyword in your case IMO and it has a lot of competition.
Still, I think it says clearly what the website is about if it has the keyword in it.
So, I'd think about using the word dog (too), if your website will be exclusively for dog charity/rescue/etc.

I'd do the branding/logo as soon as I am 100% sure about the site's name. Or buy another one with Hooch in it but as short as possible.
Like, Hooch 5. I think a logo with that combination could be amazing and people would memorize it more easily that way.

i think everything is important, the branding/logo etc. but the most important thing is the domain. Try something to be easy to write and people can remember it.

Ya I agree there should be dog in it, maybe just go with the hoochtopdog.com.. But it's a bit long, then how woukd I logo it... Should I have picture for logo.. Thanks for reply

Thanks yes I agree, easier said than done tho :-)

About the logo, it's entirely up to you. Do what you like the most. I prefer text only logos, without any (or at least any complicated) image but that's just my opinion, someone like text only, someone like image only, someone like a combination of this two... My advice would be to test all three versions and then choose the one you liked the most.
Thanks.. Test how? Sorry if that seems like a really stupid question :anyway:

If you care about branding then "hoochy4me" and "hoochtopdog" probably are not the best choices. It looks amateurish, not too exciting.

In my opinion, better options would be:

ahooch - it's relatively short, memorable and catchy (which is always a plus when you do POD). You can make a great brand around this name if you are creative enough.

forhooch is also a solid one because you will have a great story standing behind the brand name. You can share that story with your customers which will result in a stronger connection between you and your potential buyers.

I found this two in 2 minutes, so there are probably some better names out there, use your imagination :)

For logo, woukd picture with name be needed, was thinking black out shade of him...?

I think in this (your) case, a combination of text + dog photo would do the trick :)
But yeah, try a few versions if you have that option. If you know how to make logos or if someone's making it for you.

It was registered just before your post.

@Taz86, please do not buy from this guy. He's a domain squatter looking to make a quick buck, and as a non-donor he does not have selling privileges.

I picked it up as it was brandable ahwell only £5 :D

Regardless, only donors and VIPs can sell here, and you are neither.

I hope that £5 domain was worth trashing your reputation and possibly losing your account...

thanks for heads up.......I declined...1. because it was shite! and 2. I'd checked his profile, how convenient he had this domain but yet not much interest in POD or dogs!!!
