Should I buy this domain?

The wifey takes some really killer photos and I told her I would get her a site "domain" if she comes up with a name. off the the top of her head she comes up with snappyshots..com.

I checked on it and its take'n but has not been set up...2000. I dont think I can get any good keywords off this to make it fly. What do ya'll think. .. And if I did want to buy it. What would be the best way to go about this?

Check who is the registrar, and see for how much he's willing to sell you the domain.

I have checked, but they want me to pay to use....I do have his email..

it will cost you a lot. just tell your wife to think a new name.

for example the domain owner wants it for $1k. think of a new domain, get a godaddy $1 godaddy coupon. then use the $999 to date her or take her to shopping mall.

How would it be rude. Does: "Hey, I see you bought this domain a while ago but noticed you aren't using it, could I buy it from you?" sound rude?

I know the guys not dead...the domain just got renewed.. he's holding on to it.

He can have it on auto renew. It's very possible that he forgot about it.

First of all before you purchase a domain you need to think of it. Do you have future plans on it? Do you get your investment on XX amount of time or what?

If its just a photoblog, dont spend too much on it.

This is just something wifey wants saber210...I have only 8 sites "money sites" AND they do take all my time. Its slow but I find if you keep them up you slowly start making money. I do have a day job and dont think I will retire off this, but it does bring in some side money. Plus it just might keep wifey off my back.

Don't start a brand name. Do something more down to earth like {herName}.com. Something more personal.

I agree with this. Snappyshots sounds like a stock photo website. If her work is great and you want to showcase her work, I'd go for hername.com or herpseudonym.com or hergallery.com

The reason is:

1. nobody is searching for "snappy shots" anyway (exact searches are 28 /month)
2. even if people were searching for it, when they do go to the site, what's the likelihood that they will find what they are looking for there?

The best strategy, in my opinion, would be to register her name as domain. Traffic would come from social networks and over time if she gets even a little bit famous, assuming her photos are really good, people would start searching for her name. The amount of work required would be pretty much the same if you bought snappyshots. But without paying for the domain.

On the other hand, if you want to start a site that sells stock photos, snappy shots is brandable but then again, so are other unregistered domains. just my 2 cents.

I'd stay away from premium domain names, they are usually extremely overpriced. If you want a brandable domain name, there's plenty out there that aren't registered yet, just be creative. I agree it's a good idea to just get a domain name with her name if she wants to showcase her work. Remember, justin.tv was started by a guy name justin and now look where it is.

I'm 100% positive that there are better photography domain names for less than $2,000. You may have to keep your eye out for a while, but it will be worth it IMO.
