I am looking at 2 websites on Flippa that seem profitable. Both websites are about 3 months old. One of them promises about 1k per month, and both have over 100 products. Is it a good option to purchase one of them if I am a beginner? Is there a large possibility of me fucking up, and losing money?

I find that there are almost too many options in IM. I'm trying to purchase a website, and already I am looking at 3 options. Is it just better to purchase a website from the Web Design Marketplace, and start with that?

No. Do not do that. There's a reason why they're selling the site if it is that profitable. Make your own site and promote it. These types of sites usually require more promotion after purchase and if you're inexperienced, you will lose a lot of money doing so.

One of them promises about 1k per month

Offer a higher bid but the difference will only be paid after the first month that makes 1k in that month.

Also look at the data that backs it up - get them to add access to the analytics and if you can, either teamviewer or log into the source of income, don’t trust screengrabs.. inspect element is an easy way to fake stuff

It might be cheaper to just set one up yourself and use the one for sale as a baseline, learn how to get traffic to it from scratch then invest

They work for me, It depend on your skills to make them work.

when the seller give a guarantee to include their strategy on building and nurturing "their" kind of site, I think it's not bad. If they are not offering, ask them before bidding

On Flippa you'll need to be very careful because a lot of the sites are stated with POTENTIAL and not actual earnings. If you're buying a site that makes any money, and have the financial behind it to prove it, you're going to be paying a multiple on it. I've seen, and sold sites at a 3-5x revenue on flippa. You'll just have to do your due diligence. With anything, you're going to get what you put into it. Don't expect to buy a site and make money over night without any work, that is exactly what most people on flippa buying sites are looking for 'the easy way'. There is no easy way.

How much are they asking for the site that makes 1K a month?

The buy it now price: 15k. There are 6 days left in the auction, and the current bid is a little less than 200$.

Hmm, the other one that does not have the revenue stated is only 70$ buy it now. But, you are probably correct.

What do you mean with offering a higher bid and subtracting the difference? I thought that you had to pay full price when you bid.

Your best bet would be to make your own site and market it yourself to make up to 1k monthly. Buying websites isn't always a good idea.

  • Why will one sell the site i.e giving $1k at $200 (Reserve Price)?
  • Analytics stats are mostly fake only, it can be increased using bot like IPTS(Google it).
  • If you check the site traffic in any tools then it will be hardly in 2 digits

But if I purhcase one of them, why can't I just sit on the website with hosting and just wait for someone to buy a product. If I get 20$ and I only spend 10$ on hosting, then I will profit, right?

The reserve price is 1$ so it is already met. And I don't think it is actually listed in any search engine yet. It is a starter site: "
A Starter Site is a brand new website. As it has recently been launched, it's unlikely to have traffic, revenue, or page rank." I think they just get organic traffic from facebook ads.

Don't buy the website. From what you wrote, there is almost certainly no value to it.

So they are spending money to get traffic and you are still discussing about buying it.

Surely they are earning $$ by doing this.

First of all: BEWARE of things that seem too good to be true on Flippa. They prey on people who don't understand the business/get tripped up by fake analytics and/or promise things that likely won't happen.

But if I purhcase one of them, why can't I just sit on the website with hosting and just wait for someone to buy a product. If I get 20$ and I only spend 10$ on hosting, then I will profit, right?
Couple questions:
  • Is this an affiliate site? What's the % commission for the products? @ $20 for physical products that means it probably costs a minimum of $200, or if it's courses/info products it might be like $49.
  • WHO would buy the product? How are you going to get visitors to the site? Just because the site exists doesn't mean anyone would visit it. Sure, if you get $20 & only spend $10 on hosting that's great, but first you have to get some visitors to your site. Then you have to convince them to click on the affiliate link/your product. Then if it's your site you have to convince them to part with their hard earned money.
  • Do you have an SEO strategy in place? Do you have any SEO knowledge?
  • Do you understand the niche the site is in & have a general idea of how you would grow it once you buy it?
  • How would you get traffic to the site?
  • How do you get paid?
Most of the starter sites on Flippa are created automatically w/ a pretty simple process. There's often thousands of these sites so unless you're gonna buy it & do something completely different (content marketing, amazing ads, etc) it's probably not worth it, and even if you plan on doing that, it might be better to put all of that effort towards something else.

I think they just get organic traffic from facebook ads.

Facebook ads does not equal organic traffic. Facebook ads = paid traffic.
Organic traffic = opposite of paid traffic.
If they're driving visitors through Facebook ads, how much is the CPC?
How much does it cost them to acquire each customer? (CAC)
What is the lifetime of each customer? (LTV)

They might say that they don't have those numbers because it's a starter site without traffic, but then you just said they "get organic traffic from Facebook ads" which means either you're confused or they're bullsh*tting you hard.

You should learn how to use the platform that the sites are built on first. They will most likely be a Shopify site, signup with a 14-day trial to Shopify and start playing around with it so you understand how it works. Even better if you can simply create your own site on there, but it's free to test it out and try and figure out how to do things - so that if you do buy a site, you will know what you are doing a bit more in terms of ecommerce management.

If you are a beginner, better to start your own site from scratch.

From my experience, I'm disappointed to buy a starter site there.
Just make sure all the functions on the website work well before buying.
