Its hard to find .com for the keywords I'm targeting but a good number of them are available as .info

What is the SEO verdict on this? Are .info any good or should be avoided?

there is no negative effect of a ".info" domain

one of the things you can do to convince yourself of this, is to conduct a search for your keyword or phrase and look at the SERPs. Now granted it doesn't mean that .info's are always used across the board equally by marketers
of every product or service. But you will quickly see .info's ranking to
no disadvantage

they're cheap and they work!

Hali~!:)

ive seen many .info on 1st page of g00gle,i do own some as well, but not that good as .com .net .org or even .biz

You can make some money with .infos. I setup a bunch of these a couple years back and still make money on them.

info domains are for people who want to provide their information online.

HAHAHAHA!!!!!!! And .org is only for non-profit right? Come buddy, you need to do better than that.

:focus:

If you've got an exact match with the .info but the others are not available then it may be worth picking up otherwise the extra ~$10 is always worth it for a better extension.

Yes funny comment, .info is valuable as well as a .biz, on my side I have few domains with that extensions but they are ranking really well !
:p

.info is perfectly fine, i own one, even I was skeptical like you at first, but with decent seo its climbing up in the rankings, then tried some new stuff with another info domain, it came out with flying colors, so dont worry about info or com, just take care of content, on page and off page seo, and try to get some high PR backlinks to increase the PR of your site, that will help when you flip the site

.info is OK...problem was that they were and are so related to webspam websites that often many people have a bad judgement about them...

You're looking at this wrong. EMDs don't carry nearly as much weight as they used to. Ranking inner pages with proper onsite SEO is maybe 5% harder with a non-EMD. More importantly, Google LOVES brands. And branded sites allow you to build tons of brand links, which Google also loves. Forget about EMDs and build brandable domains.

They might rank reasonably well, but I suggest you'd get a better click through rate from a .com than from a .info - I think the perception of .info is just junk.

I guess more then the domain, you should focus on content and building authority for your site, however i have in some cases, .info wasn't being given a preference however as a general rule, you shouldn't be bothered with that, because what really matters is quality of your website and your links, so focus on them! Good luck

These days EMDs are not that great.

I would recommend building a "brandable" domain with say a .com and go from there.

To be honest, .info screams amateur hour. That's just my thoughts though.

There is no problem in going with .info domain. I have a .info domain which is ranking on first page for several keywords. It is just like .com or .net

There is no problem using a .info domain. I have few .info domains ranked #1 on some great keywords.
