Should expired domains be relevant to bring value?

Let's say I got one with good metrics and anchors, decent RD but it has nothing to do with my niche.

Next, I'll build the website with niche-relevant content, fill it with 6000-7000 words... could this bring any value to my site?

6000 words on the entire site won't get you anywhere really.

Using expired domains as money sites is a gamble. Even if you do everything right, sometimes, the domain simply does not work as intended.

By using non relevant domains you are reducing the chances of the domain working properly even further.

Can you rank that site? Possibly, yes. Will those non relevant backlinks help you down the line? Meh...

Can they cause trouble due to off topic anchors and all? Possibly.

Bottom line, stick with relevancy if you can.

Oh and also, pick domain first, pick a niche second. Not the other way around.

As a money site directly or PBN unit linkingto money site?

As for PBN unit, you can mix both topics. Re-create it in original topic and stick to it and then link to your money site from a page/post mixing both.

For example, let's say the website is about law and your money site about dogs. You can have article like "Poor dog treatment got them jail time".

You can try that domain if it's for PBN. Make sure the domain is clean.

Oh, this is applicable to both PBN as well as money sites, IMO.

Going hammer and tongs to connect niches is waste of time but then building a pet site on windows-vista-tips . com is a waste of effort.

I would suggest to always go with relevant niche or subniche to help boost authority.
