Should a person be using something like HMA when working on their PNB?

I read an article somewhere where someone recommended using HiDE MY ASS when working on their private blog network so that it would not make a footprint or something like that. Is there any truth to this?

Not really, you are logging into your own sites, in fact using HMA to log into your hosting accounts could raise a flag with your hosts and result in a ban.

I don't see the logic in using HMA or a VPN.

About all you'd want to do is to avoid using Google's DNS servers (and whether that even matters is debatable).

Yeah as stated above, it seems like a shared proxy network would actually risk exposure of your network, whereas you are logging into your own systems and your IP shouldn't be exposed to anyone. That said, if you hop between your blogs on one IP/machine and Google happens to pick up on this (whether it be Chrome, Google Analytics, a browser extension, cookies, PC data through Flash, etc.), that could be an issue. You may want to create a VirtualBox virtual machine for each blog or at least have a private IP for each one. Unless you're managing them all from one central location, as it's not so much an issue then.

You need to clarify what aspect of the network you are referring to.

Are you referring to working on the back-end, as in on your hosting accounts, installing WP, plugins, updating themes, adding content, etc.?

Or, are you referring to building BLs on Tier1, Tier 2, etc.?

Don't install google analytics, GWT and don't use google DNS. That's all. You are safe.

How do you block Google DNS? Do you block the crawlers through sitemap/robots.txt?

I dont know why you need HMA (or any such thing) to use your PBN.
You just need to be careful while you build your network ..posting is not an issue!
