Hi Everyone,

The motivation for the journey is so that I can party weekdays/ weekends and have a bit of money to travel and have enough fun coupons (money) to impulse buy shit I don't need.

I'm not sure whether I will update this daily or weekly.

Backstory
I've had a bit of success with tumblr + shopify earlier this year with my highest day being around $380, good but nothing too crazy. My tumblr got banned and I was left high and dry with no income - from $2k a week to nothing, it sucked. I've been testing ads for a while but it was hard to find success with crappy product photos, so I bought some of my best selling products and took photos myself. Nothing too fancy just a nice aesthetically pleasing shots (like most stores on instagram). I managed to get $80 in sales from a $10 ad spend 2 weeks ago but then I tried focusing on viral products (pokemon go) but failed. My store is pretty general

Why Paid Methods?
I want to focus my efforts on FB and Instagram Ads because I think its a better long term method.

About Me (not important)
I'm 21, Male from Sydney, Australia. Studying marketing at university (between here and other forums you can definitely learn more - half of the people in uni are stupid.

Methods for promotion

Followliker
Using 10 accounts to post similar niche related content back linking to my main store on IG. 5 Accounts will follow my competitors users and the other 5 will follow niche related IG accounts.

IG Ads
Continue testing Ads at $5 per day. Need to Split test different images / ad copy (i suck at ad copy). I will test 4 different products and see which one does best.

Fb Ads
Mostly using for retargeting users who clicked from instagram

Email
Will setup this once a few sales start coming in consistently (around $150 per week should be enough)

IG Affiliates
This method involves finding large instagram accounts similar to the niche and giving them a cut of your sales in exchange for promotion of products. The advantage is that it's a lot cheaper than giving a shoutout and if they don't get any sales its free. There needs to be a benefit for the followers of the account, so to encourage them the caption would be something similar to "@mystore has given your followers a 10% off code - use code @username in the checkout".
The problem with this method is it's going to be a hassle contacting back and forth between affiliates, paying them and (most likely) sending them products so they can show their followers the products without perceiving the post as an ad and rather a genuine endoresment.

Still have a bit more to add but its 12.57 am, will add more tomorrow

Looks like you have a good plan and some experience with it, will be an interesting journey, good luck :)

Good luck, a lot of people are making good money with drop shipping. Free traffic is the best traffic, I'm doing some of this with just using Instagram. Takes time to build the instagram account, but once you get it goin you can get a flood of traffic.

What i've done so far

Completely revamped my site, changed the theme, added a heap more products including a few more hot products, created a stronger brand image (which i think before I was lacking).

Ran an ad for a hot product, got a decent CTR (5%) on IG, didn't get any sales for the first day. The 2nd Day i got one sale for 9.95 - still testing the product with a cheap price to see if i get any sales.

Ran a 2nd ad targeting countries outside the US (also including US) mainly wealthy European countries and Canada. Managed to get 2 sales for $3.85 ($5 AUD) on the first day, will scale this ad up to $10 now. Literally just got another sale today (only 40 mins in) only $9.95. FUCKING LMAO found out I got another sale 15 mins ago for $29.85.

I'm a little unsure whether or not the sales were due to the ads i ran today or if they checked out the product yesterday and then bought it today. If not I just got $40 approx worth of sales for $0.14 - easily my best result to date on fb ads. Considering the ad usually optimises itself by day 4-5 and its only on day 2, this could easily be my first real winner on fb ads.

Today's stats look really good (definitely over inflated) but hopefully i can crack $100 today
please note that I'm in Australia and my facebook ads account is in australian dollars, so i converted back to USD. My shopify store is in USD though

Thanks for the advice, I plan on building a few IG accounts by doing shoutouts once I get a bit of money coming in. The EPC on instagram is so much higher than tumblr. 2 weeks ago I had an epc of around $7 from instagram which is nearly 20x the value of tumblr traffic.

Going to count this as a $100 day

Spend $13USD on ads
Revenue $99.50

Profit = $51.50

Going to test increasing the price of the product, I'm under the assumption that the demand/ scarcity of the product is so high that people will be willing to pay more than cheap pricing. Either going to increase the product price to $16.95 or $19.00 from $9.95, still got about 40 mins left to decide (start of day).

Thoughts

Unfortunately (but not surprisingly) the early high conversion rates were pure coincidence or luck but I still managed to do $100 revenue on day 2 of ads, so I'm pretty happy. I stopped running ads to USA because although the ctr was 2x, the ad cost was way more expensive (cpc) also the conversion rate and average order value was terrible - people were only buying 1 product. It's hard working out sales from ads because people view the ad on mobile and must either purchase later on a laptop/pc/tablet which sort of fucks up the working out conversion cost and doesn't add any value to the purchase pixel on fb (not maturing)

I believe ad 2 got 5 sales or possibly all 6 - the daily budget was spent and i got a sale afterward but the customer searched from google so, I don't really know if they
ad 3 - possibly one sale for 2c - I used conversion objective purchase for this one

I could've got a lot more sales today but i had an unusually high abandoned cart rate (no idea why) lost about $150 worth of sales

Goals for tomorrow

Get my first proper $100 day ;)
See how well the ads go after increasing the pricing, i had a few comments saying the product is too good to be true (referring to price) - perhaps the conversion rate and ctr will be similar with a higher price - inelastic priced product
Duplicate ad 2 - targeting only the countries I have been getting sales from and go back to add to cart as the conversion pixel

Good luck mate! keep updating this :)

Thank you

Are you using Aliexpress to dropship products or another provider?

yeah aliexpress is the cheapest for most products and i'm using the oberlo app to dropship - it fulfils orders very quickly

checkout franklin hatchett on youtube, he has pretty good shopify videos for beginners and also really good ones for fb ads

Update

I decided to update my price to $16.95, if it doesn't go well by the morning I will probably change it back

Thank you

But doesn't need Aliexpress around 1 month for shipping?

Good luck to achieve your goal bro. How many products you've listed in your site?

hi, its usually take 20 days to 1 month for aliexpress shipping how can you shorten this process?

yes for most countries, epacket shipping costs $1.50-$4 but it only takes about 10-13 days on average between purchasing and the customer receiving

Thank you, about 200 but not all of them are published and quite a few have different variants / colours that i've broken up into separate products

Changed the product price to $16.95 got no sales - the ctr on the ad was the same, no idea why people were clicking through after seeing the price and not buying. I changed the price back after about 10 hours of no sales, adjusted the ads and something went wrong as they're performing really poorly / not delivering.

I created a new ad with same everything, hopefully make a few sales to cover the cost of ads. Although I only spent about $7 between 2 ads before killing them.

Ended up profiting yesterday after changing the price back to the original and changing the ads. Managed to do $119 of sales on a $10 spend.

Today was my best day so far $248, I made an ad for a new product, it went alright got one sale for $19.80 but only cost $4 so I will continue testing that product because the margin is much larger and the customers are more likely to purchase other items from my store. It seems like the current product is only selling specifically that product which is fine but it makes it harder to become a brandable store. So much uni work today and until wednesday so I might do a bulk/ weekly update.

Main product $230 rev
Ad spend $20

Product 2 $19.80 rev
Ad spend $4

Going to increase my ad spend to $30 and see how that goes. I seem to be getting most sales after 4-5 PM (Aus time)

Nice topic. Will definetly bookmark this.

Are there a lot of refunds yet for your products?

I hope not, i've done about 10k in sales a few months ago and only did about 5 or 6 refunds. I'm not exactly sure with this product, its kind of a copy of a legit one
