Setting up a local buisness

I have an oppertunity to set up a local auto wrecker/scrap yard with a website and web presence. Im wondering if theres any step by step kind of guides that walk you through the whole prosess. How much would you charge for say a simple 3 or 4 page wordpress site with a .com or .info and run them on your server? What else would be needed for local SEO? Is google buisness maps a good idea?

Google Maps is excellent. I own 2 brick and mortar businesses and get a lot of action from that.

As much as your client will pay. Take the time to build value in your services and you'll hit a home run every time.

In my experience, generic pricing doesn't work. There are no cookie cutter solutions that will fit every clients needs, so approaching them with overly generic prices and services will get you nowhere fast.

What's your time worth?

Depending on how you plan on pitching them, I'd suggest putting together a presentation that includes a la carte services and packages, all way overpriced. Show a discount off your rate card and watch your closing ratio skyrocket. Even a perceived discount gets buyers excited.

I sit down and talk to my potential customer and figure all they want on the site. I then, try to figure out how much time it is going to take me, in hours then multiply that number by my hourly rate.

If its an E commerce site, then add another $1k to the number. Then there is the cost of what ever licenses you have to buy, then pass on to the customer.

hosting, well, that a sliding scale, depending on the site size and potential traffic, eCommerce or not, and few other things.

Has always worked for me.

Working out roughly how many hours it's going to take you, times that by some sort of hourly rate, then round the number to a better number, ie $170 to $200, you can make a nice bit of extra cash selling clients webhosting as well, they don't really care, they just want their website online, so saying "We'll host your website, sort out any issues with it and make sure it's stable for $xx/month" is probably the best way to go about that, you just created the website, they want to keep with somebody they've already worked with, who knows what they are doing. Trust me.

ok the thing is im just starting out so an hourly rate wouldnt really apply for me because im just a noob to all this. The guy is kind of a friend too and I know hes gona want a static figgure..so lets say i set up a wordpress site with like 3 or 4 pages and google maps linking to his site with maybe a cheep localy geo targeted adwords campaign..how much would that run? $1000 plus the cost of the adwords fees?

Outsource all of your work to start. Find some good providers on BHW for a good price. I would do the following:

1. Either do KW research yourself or hire someone to do it for you (you can get it done very cheap on BHW or WF)
2. Have content created via articles. Have someone write and SEO index page using the keyword list you had done.
3. Find out color schemes and logos with your client. If they already have a logo than that is great as you just need to find a web designer on BHW who can integrate a color scheme/logo into a site design.
4. Now that the site design is complete make sure all the meta data is correct. The easiest way is to have the site on wordpress and have all-in-one SEO plugin to input the data for header, title, keywords, etc. All the while using the keyword data and research you have either done yourself or outsourced.
4. Have your client sign up for an aweber or other autoresponder account under YOUR affiliate link and create an opt in code.
5. Use snippets of the articles you had written and use them in the autoresponders for now. Yes I know it's not the best copy but it gets things going and off the ground. Have your client think of topics he'd like to discuss as well to his clients via email. Remember, he's the expert in his own field and knows more of what his customers want.
6. Input all the content on to the site that you have created.
7. Make sure the contact form is working
8. Have more original SEO articles submitted to article directories with anchor links for your main keywords
9. Have an SEO press release written and submitted (there are providers on BHW for this)
10. Have all your work bookmarked and submitted to the search engines
11. Outsource some backlinking
12. Create a Facebook fanpage for the business and start and advertising campaign with your clients money. Drive fans from fan page to website.

This isn't everything but it's a start and it isn't necessarily in complete order but you get the point. While you are outsourcing you need to study and learn yourself so you know exactly what to do, how to do it, and when to do it. The main point I'm trying to get across is you don't need to know how to do any of this but you need to know WHEN to do what, what works, what can hurt the site, etc.

I would mark everything up 100% and it will still be a good deal.

There are a million services you can offer this guy on the backend for $500 to $1000 per month depending on his budget. Even higher if the client has money.

I almost forgot:

Once the site is live then you need to get him set up in Google local and optimize that as well. There are many threads within the forum on this. Be careful doing anything BH with this though as if you get banned from Google local it will fuck up everything else you have done! Remember, this isn't your site. Be careful with BH tools and techniques when working on a clients site. Slow and steady. This makes you more in the long run anyway.

wow thats alot of info..thx. Thing is I really dont think he needs all that promotion done. Its just a local scrap company that needs a website. I know I will be throwing the site on google buisness maps and maybe an ad in online yellow pages or somthing. All I need is local traffic, he mainly just wants scrap cars and what not..any sort of metal. I dont even know what a SEO press release is lol but im sure he wont be needing that. Remember im a noob and this guy doesnt really need all the SEO, its not necessary.
