Seriously: you ready for Coronavirus?

A bit of perspective...

Coronavirus - an interesting read! ✈️

-----------------------------------------l

Malta saw scenes of panic, right out of World War Z yesterday as people raided supermarkets in search of the final roll of toilet paper, and the last packet of Galletti.

But I would like to take your time on this fine day to bring to your attention, exactly what this virus represents in Numbers! After All, Numbers don’t lie.

So, here it goes:

80,000 People are Sick with Coronavirus at the Moment
of which 77,000 are in China.
This means that if you are not from China than this should remove 96% of your worry.

If you contract Coronavirus, this still is not a cause for alarm, because:

81% of the Cases are MILD
14% of the Cases are MODERATE
and only 5% of the Cases are CRITICAL
This means that if you do get the virus, you are most likely to recover from it.

Some say, “imma this is worse than SARS! The world is ending!” – THIS.IS.A.LIE.

SARS had a fatality rate of 10% while COVID-19 has a fatality rate of 2%!
Moreover, looking at the ages of those who are dying of this virus, the death rate for the people UNDER 50 years of age is only 0.2%!

This means that the majority of people actually recover!

This means that if you are under 50 years of age, and not living in China, you are more likely to win the lottery which is a 1 in 45,000,000 chance!

NOW, Let’s take one of the worst days so far – the 10th of February. Whilst we were enjoying our Public Holiday, 108 persons in CHINA died of Coronavirus.

BUT, on the same day
26,283 people died of Cancer
24,641 people died of Heart Disease
4,300 people died of Diabetes
and on that day, Suicide, unfortunately, took more lives than the virus did, by 28 times.
Moreover, Mosquitoes kill 2,740 people every day, HUMANS kill 1,300 fellow humans every day and Snakes kill 137 people every day.

One final thing which we would like to address is the Myth of the Mask. No, this is not the latest Indiana Jones instalment but a huge misconception.

Basically, people who are not sick do not need to wear any mask. A mask is worn to contain germs, in case, those who are affected sneeze (which is the most common way of spreading the virus). The mask should be worn by those who feel that they might be sick. The mask carries germs on its outer part, and, if not changed frequently, then it might actually be one of the carrying vehicles of the germs.

You can paint numbers how ever you want... i dont get why are spanish people so unconcerned about this.

I know its just a flu.. and you will probably get better resting. But, have you found any cure for flu in the last what... 100´s of years ?
This is actually something to get concerned about.

Thank you for the facts and your reason-based comment. I simply refuse to let fear, panic, and terror win, by replacing common sense. Also, you can't call it life, living in terror and fear. Every person should do the best to protect him/herself and also help others, but with calm. Also, everybody should pay great attention not only to the quality of the information available on the internet, but to the trustworthiness of the sources too. Ummm, am I the only one who has the impression I've ended up talking about content, E-A-T, and medical update? :D

Well for starters I’m not spanish, I’m Irish. I’m fortunate enough to make enough bank online that I can live wherever the fuck I want. To answer your question though - the spanish are taking it seriously, their first two cases are cured and released, most of the other cases are mild so are being home treated, there are two areas they are considering shutting down as they can’t explain some of the cases.. apart from that they’re a chilled people so mass hysteria isn’t in their nature, thank fuck!

Don’t get me wrong I’m concerned too.. mainly as I have family members with underlying health issues such as diabetes, but a bit of realism and actual perspective needs to come into the equation, all that’s happening now is fear mongering and panic which is proving to be a lot more detrimental to the world (for the moment) than the virus is.

Sorry my bad, your profile location just states your spanish.

Imho, the ones trying to keep rest calm are more worried about their stock market.
And those getting concerned about health of real human people are influenced by the local media.

I don't think we're very afraid of this virus. The government says that our country is ready for further development of the virus

Its getting Worse daily it might like a flu but as you can see base on the data the death rate is getting higher you may die contacting this virus, just Wandering what might Happen 2-3 months from now
where did you read that is getting wor
COVID-19 has about the same mortality rate as the Spanish flu.

100 million died from the Spanish flu.

in 1930

Exactly @calamassi86 although it was 1918 the spanish flu took hold.. the same year WW1 ended, which saw 100s of 1000s of troops returning home after the war in mainland Europe. I think someone mentioned this earlier in the thread, it was basically the perfect storm.

Things are a lot different in 2020 than they were in 1918, although freedom of movement could be argued to be as big a problem as those troops returning home (I would argue against as we've already seen quick reactions in terms of quarantined areas).. our medical facilities, technology and abilities to deal with a mass crisis are on another level now.

Thanks a lot for the numbers and a detailed explanation! I'm less than 50 and not in China so I'm safe :)

I really don't understand people who influenced by panic got afraid of walking out in the street without a mask all of a sudden, while in fact all this time they had a lot more chances of contracting an ordinary flu and dying of it than getting a coronavirus - and they were not afraid of it at all. It's just illogical.

Yup, because the UK doesn't get overwhelmed with the flu every year. It's not like manufacturing has had to stop because people are told to stay at home, and drop shippers have been doing just fine the past month or so.

Yup on another level alright...

It's not about comparing different times, different viruses. There are more people in the world than ever before, we are more interconnected than ever before. No one produces anything in their own country anymore it's shipping, located or imported all over the globe. One part of that system goes down and that's the knock on effect.

Yes on another level - that's called a reaction to the problem, one which seems to be working in China as new cases are going down daily.. extreme yes, but apparently working. So yes, we're on another level in terms of how we react to these situations vs the early 1900s is what I was getting at, as someone else (not I) brought up this being similar to the Spanish flu of that era.

This is by far the most intelligent response I saw since all the panic about coronavirus emerged. Thank you very much for the details and an objective statistical analysis based not on fear but on numbers.

Go talk with your local practicioner.

All I got to say is this - if you haven't studied the subject and you're around people who have, don't say anything. Otherwise, to them, you will sound dumb. And this goes to the creator of the thread. You're literally raising a completely unnecessary alarm right now. Instead of focusing on what's trending (coronabullshit in this case), please, read the articles that are purposely hidden a few pages further. And if you are wise enough, you might put the whole puzzle together and realize what is actually going on.

Best of luck.
