Seriously: you ready for Coronavirus?

Social Media users in china are panicking and making all sorts of claim that can't be verified and go against the data being reported from other places.
But we also can't trust the mainstream news either.
What I say is that we don't really know the Exact situation of China now. Since China is a communist country. They censor everything... Mostly on information.

Hey OP, you just made me to research and open a thread in lounge on ways to prevent from Corona virus. Thanks for panicking me and trying to find ways.. ;)

From replies some people are just plain stupid, quoting stats given by govt. which suppresses information and releases only when it's too late or just try to calm down the public.

Now, there is also media hype how masks don't help with corona virus prevention, instead it increases infection possibility? Do you believe that shit? Will you go out into the crowd with mask or without mask? Which has high probability of infection, with or without mask?

Some compare how mortality rate is lower than this and that flu and shit. How do you know the stats is true not made up by some govt.? Also how do you know it would be same for other poor countries? Also remember that this is a new virus and also don't just look at the lowest of the death rate from one country. Also this stat as from world govt. is from confirmed cases, we don't know how many unconfirmed cases there and how many unconfirmed unknown deaths there are. You could just be assuming it's some flu and spreading to how many more people god knows.

Also, even if you believe you have strong immune system, how can you be sure that you are truly immune from this virus?

May be you are one of those living in the west, first world countries, who live by yourself, alone. And you don't care about some shit going outside while you live in your closet.

But we asian people live with our families, brother sisters, parents, some have large joint families with old people. Even if we don't have to worry about ourselves, we have worry about our families. Also most asian countries are poor, health infrastructure cannot sustain this pandemic.

Even western and other developed countries might not be able to provide health care to all seriously infected patients. Serious illness requires them to be put in ICU with ventilators and from what I've read even USA don't have more than 150,000 or so ICU and not even 100,000 ventilators. With the rate of infection and spread, and with conservative 2% mortality rate you can imagine how many will die.

Not just corona infected patients will die but those patients not having corona viruses will also die because of lack of enough medical attention, not having enough medical capacity in the country. There was news from south korea, that 200,000 non cov patients were waiting for medical treatment because of this epidemic.

As it spreads, it may even spread from your pets and other animals and birds, foods stuffs and other materials.

Looks like it's out of control.

Spreading like fire in Italy and USA

Why did USA allow a plane with 60+ people in it, some known contaminated(??) to simply go normally and "self quarantine"?? They should've been forced into special quarantine quarters immediately.

The virus can hide for 30 to 40 days. Yes, you read that right. The longest period now is 27 days confirmed but they're obviously withholding information from us.

The way this thing spreads is insane.

Almost as if it was a bioweapon.

In fact a perfect bioweapon has 3 conditions:

1 - It does not show symptoms for a long time so it can infect as many people as possible

2 - It does not kill quickly so it can infect as many people as possible

3 - It contaminates via air, touch and indirectly since the virus lives outside the body for weeks.

This shit really does look like the perfect bioweapon.

Are you ready for what's next?

Stock up on disinfectants, water, batteries and meds. You will NOT be able to buy things very soon.

In Italy supermarkets are getting emptied.

Get ready. Humankind is entering a new phase.
My aunt lives 20 km away from the place corona virus "exploded", în Italy, and it's not like that. She said to me that in The first day people were going crazy but în the 2nd day everything was almost back to normal except The schools.

Its getting Worse daily it might like a flu but as you can see base on the data the death rate is getting higher you may die contacting this virus, just Wandering what might Happen 2-3 months from now

LOL

People are paranoid.

In 2009 the Swine Flu killed 500.000 people across the globe, majority were younger people <65.

People didn't even notice and nobody can't even remember it.

Why ?

Cause social media was not there yet.

I'm 100% sure this cov-19 will never kill more than 20.000 people which is less than any seasonal flu, any year of our history.

Problems we are facing are mostly generated by the panic. People amassing the hospitals, all at the same time.

Israel has almost done it. It seemed like As if they were working before this virus leaked out of lab.

Lots of companies are very close and showing promising results, that's not the part that takes the longest it's the trials. You can't rush through trials for the sake of saving time. Animal and human testing need to be done and we need to make sure there are no serious side effects etc. unfortunately it's not a quick process. Safety comes before speed. I can't see how they can safely do trials and be ready in 90 days, as much as I'd love it to happen.

People , "Cowards die many times before their deaths;
The valiant never taste of death but once."

Let's do the right things like washing our hands, and and just leave the fears and panic to cowards. We are clever enough to survive. Panic and the absence of reason are the worst enemies, in my opinion.

Sounds about right :)

Who played Plague? I bet downloads for that game gna blow up now :D It would be good timing for them to release a new update with a new virus in stock. lol..

Oh also it might be a 2% death rate but this is a virus and it can mutate. What if those who recovered will turn zombies? Damn, that would be fun! Childhood dream comes true!

we waiting for new vaccine special for covid 19 , If you care about safe place , my country is best choise ( Cambodia ) :)))

Here in Germany people got crazy, bought almost everything out of the supermarkets lol
The media and social media did brainwash them very easily.
I think its almost impossobile to die on corona in the western countries. In Germany still not any deaths.

COVID-19 has about the same mortality rate as the Spanish flu.

100 million died from the Spanish flu.

100 million died from the Spanish flu.

Spanish Flu killed off 1.7% of the global population, which is insane, but it was a perfect storm for the virus to spread. Thousands of people returning home after the end of WW1 allowed the virus to spread with ease.

I wonder now with the ease of local, national and international travel if it's also a perfect storm for the virus to spread.

What was interesting with the Spanish flu was the mortality rate was much higher for people in the prime of their life (20 - 40 years).

The UK has revealed its response to the coronavirus. The government believes that in a “stretching scenario”, up to a fifth of the workforce may be off sick during the peak of an epidemic.

It warns there could be an increase in deaths, particularly among vulnerable and elderly groups.

Here are some more points from the government’s briefing:

  • A possible delay strategy could be used to move the peak of the outbreak to warmer months so that it does not overlap with normal flu and allows more time for research
  • There are plans ready for a range of outcomes, from mild pandemic with low impact on services (like Swine Flu in 2009) through to severe and prolonged pandemic
  • There are plans for the Ministry of Defence to provide support to Civilian Authorities if requested
  • If the disease becomes established in the UK, further measures to be considered include school closures, home working and reducing large-scale gatherings
  • Police would concentrate on serious crimes and maintaining public order if a lot of officers are on sick leave, in the case of the disease being fully established
  • There could well be an increase in deaths, particularly amongst the vulnerable and elderly
  • Concessions may be made by tax officials if businesses struggle to pay tax bills
  • Some non-urgent care in the NHS may be delayed to focus on treating coronavirus patients.
  • Recently retired staff may be called back
Announcing the UK's coronavirus plan, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said: "I fully understand public concern about the global spread of the virus and it is highly likely we will see a growing number of UK cases. Keeping the UK safe is the government’s overriding priority.

"We will make sure the NHS gets all the support it needs. Our country remains extremely well prepared as it has been since the outbreak began several months ago.

"We must not forget what we can do to prevent this virus, wash your hands with soap and hot water for the length of time it takes to sing happy birthday twice."
Prime Minister Boris Johnson said the army is ready to support police in maintaining order.

"The army is of course always ready to backfill as and when but that is under a reasonable worst case scenario," he said during a news conference.

He added: "Let me be absolutely clear that for the overwhelming majority of people who contract the virus, this will be a mild disease from which they will speedily and fully recover, as we have already seen."

Other measures in the UK plan include:

  • Hospital discharges could be monitored to free up beds, with appropriate care in people's homes.
  • All government departments are to have a lead person for coronavirus.
  • Helping businesses with short-term cash-flow problems, including giving them longer to pay bills.
  • A "distribution strategy" for the UK's stockpiles of key medicines and equipment such as protective clothing, which will cover the NHS, and could extend to social care.
Quarantine

Local authorities in England can apply to the courts to enforce quarantine and medical examination, restricting movement of individuals known to have or have been exposed to the disease. There are similar powers for authorities in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

Powers have already been given to police, public health professionals and courts to enforce isolation on individuals, the report reveals.

But some significant differences make this way more problematic:

- The scientific community was already well aware of H1N1 virus type and with good progress in vaccine - this made a vaccine available to public in 6 months

- There's no proven method of vaccine or treatment to coronavirus - this has been attempted in the past without success

- H1N1 when it develops pneumonia is often bacterial, which offered treatment success - with covid-19 both antiviral and antibacterial treatments have proven not to work

- WHO isn't even sending out panic messages that no other virus killed in such a short period of time - covid-19 kills (when it happens) on avg. 6 days after initial symptoms

- So far covid-19 is 10x more deadly than H1N1 is

Also, if we compare to previous coronavirus SARS and MERS, were both way more deadly, but way less contagious, therefore much easier to contain - which happened. Covid-19 already made way more fatalities, and it's not even widely spread yet.

The scientific community is very worried. They know this virus can do much more harm than any other we ever had on Earth. Needs to be slowed down.
