I wanted to throw a feeler out on BHW and see what's available for SEO.

We're looking to get a website optimized to the first page of insurance related keywords - new site. It's a tough industry (competition wise), but we're in it for the long haul (we have long term buyers for our insurance leads).

To date we've only used white hat SEO freelancers, but I guess I'm open to both whitehatters and you "evil" blackhatters - as long as the leads that follow are actually legit. I'm open to anything...it's all about results.

Two things:

1. If you are in it for the long haul (as you point out) you do not go blackhat. Blackhat is - for the most part - a short term strategy.
2. You are looking to get on the homepage for insurance related keywords? Good luck. This is one of the most competitive industries to tackle and it will require a lot more spend than hiring a few freelancers to optimise your site, especially, since I presume you have quite a new domain. I think you could be looking at around 6 months minimum before you start to see some results for this kind of work.

To me, those two things seem obvious and it appears you're quite new to seo (based on what you've said). My advice: don't start in the insurance realm, start with something simpler and work your way up - unless of course you have a very niche insurance focus.

1. thanks. yes i realize that blackhat is not conducive to the long-term. we're already doing whitehat on different websites. we'd also consider blackhat on completely different websites if it would get any sort of short-term results that outweigh the costs.

2. we're not out to lunch on this. we weren't expecting it to take a few months, nor are we going for the largest keywords. however, it is more than possible in 6-12 months time to get first page results on some decent keywords. i have a friend in this niche who is on the first page for an insurance based keyword with over 350k searches/month, as well as on the first page for a minimum half a dozen other keywords. they started their website 11-12 months ago.

I'm not new to this, but I appreciate the advice.

Have you thought about being a cpa advertiser, you can pay people to bring you leads. then you can resell to your source.

It's good advice, and we actually are doing some of that - but with lead generation companies and large affiliates (off the networks).

We have been in talks with cpa networks as we get some 3 times the payout from our buyers as affiliates get on cpa networks. The only reason we haven't pulled the trigger on cpa networks is 1. concern over quality 2. cpa network contracts aren't as flexible in terms of testing quantities, and return policies, as with the private contracts we can create.
