It's all about volume game. Low comp keywords and longtails will rank without a single backlink (you can rank for hundreds of thousands longtails and still get decent results without intentionally targeting a single high comp keyword, still depends on niche tho), just with decent onpage. High comp keywords will need some links. It's just all about numbers.
