I read it on google news some days ago. Google Pay killed Candy business

What is this S-E-O you speak of? I've never heard of such a thing. Could it be food?

Sort of. I think it's a very narrow view though.

Will PAA type sites, Q&A type blogs and information based websites get stung by the rise of AI search, absolutely. Probably not within 5 years but definitely at some point. There will just be no need to google questions and search for answers when you can speak complex questions into an AI app or type into a browser and get an immediate answer with 99% certainty. Probably won't kill the industry but it'll hurt for sure.

That's only a small % of total sites and a small % of reasons that people use google search.

Its worth bearing in mind that google bought deepmind in 2014. We have no idea how far along they've brought this or how involved it is already with google search, if I had to guess i'd say it's already playing a large role in search results. We just haven't noticed it.

I think search will change, therefore optimisation will change but it'll never 'die'.

I would be worried if I was a coder though, that profession is going to get absolutely ripped in the next few years by AI.

Guys will over 50% of search queries are already answered directly in the serps.

This trend will continue along with advances in tech.

Google will find a way to cut sites out of the business model and serve ads in their properties.

SEO may not die as Google will still optimise it's results to meet searcher preferences/ history/ lifestyle, but revenue derived from Google ads will surely.

And don't forget that by 2030 we will all be connected to the web via wearables or direct implants.

I'd say you overthink stuff mate. 5 years is a long time in the world we live in today. We may (as well as not) experience much bigger problems than the death of SEO .

What's more, you can make a lot, and learn a lot, from doing SEO or IM in five years. Money comes and goes, but knowledge and experience and connections stay with you, and you can benefit from it all, even if you have to eventually change your field completely.

You have nice projects going on. I'd say focus on them, do the best you can do now, and you'll see what the feature has in stake for SEO, and for you...
