SEO takes another hit....Thoughts?

don't you think android users already link their Gmail account instantly with their phone?

Yeah and mobile is a growing market, but I don't see it being that big of an issue at least not at this time.

Just like the +1, a lot of people started worrying about the negative seo impacts on their sites. Dont know about everyone else, but it has not been a huge factor on any of my sites. In fact, I have a site that has 0 plus ones and is ranked as an authority site in a financial niche with 14 number one rankings for different keywords.

Now I could be wrong (my wife swears I am always wrong :)), but I just don't think people should worry about these types of things until G requires everyone to sign in to do a search. Don't forget about it, but don't start making huge changes in anything until we see how it pans out. Could be another failure like the +1.

I think they're going to make it harder and by that way a lot of data will be invisible. So any data extraction company or SEO firm is going to feel the pressure now. Only google knows about the data of users (searches and the geolocaiton). that way they're going to rip more benefits. many adwords users will waste money and google is going to earn frm that. till things become clear , it's to adapt to these changes.

I hope there is enough "anti-trust" material in it that somebody will take them to court, otherwise they will shake hands with ms and rule the electronic world...

I think it is a great idea even though it is a bad news for SEO. People need to have privacy about what they search. I think it is also a great decision in a time where Facebook is creating tracking cookies that will track people even if logged out.

Every time I see Google coming up with something new I'm thinking that something doesn't seem right. I've been online for a long time and I don't remember Google making so many changes in such a short time that don't seem to lead anywhere.

This year alone has been mind numbing. Panda, G+, dying buzz, even memos leaking from their own. I don't want to seem pretentious but my mommy always told me that the person shouting the most, probably has the least to offer.

Googles activities this year have been too much. They are trying to hard. Is there something wrong? Now I don't care what they do, I keep on doing the old school SEO.

Get content, get links, convert, repeat. It has saved me a lot of migraines

My wife told me this the other day when I was bitching about someone and something

It should do unless Google start masking the query string

No I think it wouldn't, because the query string is not viewable anymore, this is why the people here are concerning about it.

It's not blackhat because it is their search engine. This is going to be a pretty big blow for most, but start switching over now, and you will be just fine.

Start "switching over" to what? To PPC?

Webmasters can also receive an aggregated list of the top 1,000 search queries that drove traffic to their site for each of the past 30 days through Google Webmaster Tools. This information helps webmasters keep more accurate statistics about their user traffic.

If you choose to click on an ad appearing on our search results page, your browser will continue to send the relevant query over the network to enable advertisers to measure the effectiveness of their campaigns and to improve the ads and offers they present to you.

Effectively, they are going to abandon any real, relevant "organic search" (queries would go to, say, Wikipedia) and move towards the pure paid search. (a future SEPPRP one might say)

The money is the only thing relevant in the States anyway.

What is going on? This years has been awful in terms of SEO. First the Panda update, now this. Someone wrote above that searches are slow- yes! they are. I am really hoping that they won't get slower. I think that in the near future, it would be obligatory to have an account and the big G is going to add https as a default option for everyone.
Life is getting harder for webmasters :D

Only the die hard G lovers sign in to G

I disagree, anyone who has a gmail account is signed into their google account. Majority of people never sign out of their account on their personal computers which means https searches.

Another bad news. Just bought an auto tag plugin :p

From what i read thin autoblogs should become the new trend

Think about this, supposedly 20% of the States will be on G+ at the end of the year. All signed into their gaccount. Then there's gmail, all signed in. Adwords/adsense accounts, all signed in. Youtube accounts, all signed in. This could be a serious issue.

For those of you that may not know what this means, it means that you won't be able to see the search terms of users that are logged in to their Google account. It will only show as google.com. This can make it harder, if your an SEO firm, to show ROI to customers. It also makes it difficult to optimize a landing page for incoming search terms.

Maybe I'm overreacting but this makes me very uneasy.

I hate showing link proofs anyway, so this good for that.

But it makes spying on comp's keywords harder I assume also.

income $$$ through adwords will increase exponentially. For Google of course .

Of course.

This is Google's main focus for pretty much all of their projects. Adwords is what allowed Google to amass a lot of wealth in such a short period of time.

It is still one of their biggest sources of cashflow, so it's only natural that they want to make as many people use Adwords as they can.

Google analytics won't have the data either so it doesn't matter if you are using theirs or a third parties.

Google have estimated that oly about 10% of traffic will be effected, but that sounds a little low to me. As more people sign in on Google on their mobile devices for example, would average Joe bother logging out?

This is only a big G cloaking device...

There's no way Google are not going to disclose keywords, because that's how their whole Adwords and Adsense platforms are built around. That Pay per click keyword system...

Or they could be switching to a more demographic based system a la facebook, but it seems to farfetched...

Anyway, only time will tell.

Meh, this doesn't concern me much because you're still going to get the data for everyone that isn't logged into Giggle, which is like 90% of the people that come to your site.

I have a hard time believing the single digit shit Matt Cutts came out with...granted we are all 'tech savvy' so we tend to stay logged in to google accounts but I know people that just have gmail and aren't heavy internet users but stay logged in as well. Either way, when this is released then the data will prove or disprove this theory.

Only the die hard G lovers sign in to G on a daily basis and therefore unless G forces people to sign in to use search (which could happen), these nuances are not going to be that big of an issue.

That's not true. If u use gmail & don't actually logged out technically ur still logged Into google. This represents a fair amount of gmail users.

I agree with this guy ^. I've been using secure google for about a year now. It's been up and available for a long time, but just not something that has been forced on users. You can use it anytime you wish.
Google has to disclose the keywords to adwords advertisers because otherwise how else would they know what words to bid on or how much they should bit or how much traffic a kw has? Google's goal is to make the advertiser, the searchers, AND themselves happy, otherwise their system falls apart. If they don't give out keywords, then they don't have advertisers and their whole world goes to shit. I'm positive that they'll keep the adwords keyword tool, however scrapers like scrapebox or other programs designed to scrape the keyword suggestion box won't work anymore. We'll be stuck using the adwords tool. There's nothing wrong with that though, right?

A lot of people do stay logged into Gmail as well. They would still get personalized results, but as another poster said, 90% of people that visit your site are not actually logged in. I don't think it will be a huge change....but rather a change for people who offer scraping services. :)

I wonder if it will affect Spyfu, Wordtracker, or any other big services like that? What do you think?
