I'd like to know everyones thoughts about this

SSL encryption on the web has been growing by leaps and bounds. As part of our commitment to provide a more secure online experience, today we announced that SSL Search on https://www.google.com will become the default experience for signed in users on Google.com. This change will be rolling out over the next few weeks.

What is the impact of this change for webmasters? Today, a web site accessed through organic search results on http://www.google.com (non-SSL) can see both that the user came from google.com and their search query. (Technically speaking, the user's browser passes this information via the HTTP referer field.) However, for organic search results on SSL search, a web site will only know that the user came from google.com.

Webmasters can still access a wealth of search query data for their sites via Webmaster Tools. For sites which have been added and verified in Webmaster Tools, webmasters can do the following:
View the top 1000 daily search queries and top 1000 daily landing pages for the past 30 days.
View the impressions, clicks, clickthrough rate (CTR), and average position in search results for each query, and compare this to the previous 30 day period.
Download this data in CSV format.
In addition, users of Google Analytics's Search Engine Optimization reports have access to the same search query data available in Webmaster Tools and can take advantage of its rich reporting capabilities.

For those of you that may not know what this means, it means that you won't be able to see the search terms of users that are logged in to their Google account. It will only show as google.com. This can make it harder, if your an SEO firm, to show ROI to customers. It also makes it difficult to optimize a landing page for incoming search terms.

Maybe I'm overreacting but this makes me very uneasy.

From an SEO standpoint it is not the best thing

From a privacy update it is slightly better than what google did before

You essentially won't be able to see the keywords that people use to get to your site from Google...

This is google's way of forcing webmasters to use Google Analytics and Google Webmaster Tools and not their own tracking scripts or 3rd party software. Who said Google doesn't do blackhat?!

It's not blackhat because it is their search engine. This is going to be a pretty big blow for most, but start switching over now, and you will be just fine.

This only will affect people that are signed in to Google right? While this is significant, I think there is still a large portion of people that don't have Google accounts. This could change drastically if their Google+ ever takes off, but at the moment, I know that a lot of the casual internet users aren't locked in. We should still see some non-https related searches.

This is definitely a push for Google to lean on webmasters to adopt their tools thus garnishing even more data for their own use.

I have mixed feelings about SEO with this one, but my feelings as user are as clear as the sky - thats sucks.

Lately Google searches were slow as fuck in my country, with SSL they will be even slower.

Only the die hard G lovers sign in to G on a daily basis and therefore unless G forces people to sign in to use search (which could happen), these nuances are not going to be that big of an issue.
