Looking for someone to point me in the right direction.

I am new to SEO and have been scanning through the forums. Just wanted to see if anyone had any recommendations on how I could get into SEO and learn it on my own. Any info would help.

Follow active threads and you will soon start picking things up.

Following google updates, and reading about how they impacted people's previous methods can help you understand what you should do and what to avoid. The main game is pretty much good keyword research, and quality links - along with good content. Share-able content does it's own seo.
