SEO rankings with URL’s

Hi, I have a question regarding SEO rankings with URL’s. My understanding is URL’s have minimal influence on rankings on Google, correct? I have sites with hundreds of articles and while they’re organized in-site for viewer navigation, they aren’t in their URL’s. Which means, all my URL’s are like this:

http://www.domain.com/article-name

However, if I were to implement categories for all my articles, would it help my rankings? Or hurt them (shorter URL’s generally do better than longer ones)? For example, I can do this:

http://www.domain.com/category/article-name

Which of the two URL’s will be better for SEO rankings purely from Google’s POV? Or there will be no difference? Thanks!

Keyword in the URL plays an important role.

The rest is related more to organization of the website than SEO.

If you add category to the URL, make sure to apply redirects as well. There will be fluctuations for sure.

I have it setup like you as well. Posts & pages categorized but it is not reflected in the URL structure.

From my knowledge, Index servers are placed before the data servers.
Index servers has the URL listing.
Its good to have domain name category and the article name.

But nowadays, this one https://www.domain.com/article-name works better than the category urls. I agree with @Nut-Nights.

Since it is an article, the URL itself has the article title ...right? . It better to have the website and article names.

it has nothing to do with SEO for real, either having it with a category in URL or not,
leave it this way, it's best to go

i have seen studies that show the shorter the distance from your page to root, it tends to be better for ranking. the way you have your current url structure is fine. i would not change it, specially with that many pages, and also i am sure you have backlinks to many of them. not worth it.

Creating categories for articles would mean that you are going to have your sitemap more complicated. I think that in terms of SEO that is not better comparing to what you have at the moment. So if I were you I'd left things in place.

Adding a category to your URL structure will have negligable impact on your rankings, if any at all. But doing it will destabilize your rankings for a while. Especially if you've already got backlinks to your existing pages/URLs. So...in my view...it is not worth the trouble. Leave your URL structure as-is...it's just fine.

Yes you are rite short url is better. But if your site having all types of content, i mean all categories content so better to define category. But if you posting ur blog without category like this :- http://www.domain.com/article-name then now no need to change just keep on posting same way. OK
