To rank low competition is easier. Just create web 2.0 properties on high DA sites and get them all indexed. If the competition is low your micro-niche site will rank on the first page but this is not going to happen instantly. you need to keep working and apart from links there are other factors too. Like website speed, content, region of searches, etc.
