Does anyone know if .com URL's carry a different weight compared to .net/.me/.co or .org?

Yes. .com has higher value in SEO

Do you have a resource for this or are you saying this from your own experience? I see a lot of .net, .org sites ranking just as good as a .com but I would definitely prefer a .com if it is available.

The variation in value between the dot extensions has been deprecated and will continue to fall as they create more extensions and more popular sites use them. Content is now king. All other things being equal, if you can get a .com, use the .com. Otherwise the .net & .org are just as good. Eventually the differences will become meaningless for SEO purposes.

I agree here besides the .net part. I see .com and .org ranking in my niches. Just check out keywords and see what's taking up page 1. Also note if the affiliate sites are EMD's or not. Like they say, when in Rome do as the Romans.

Definitely .com. If not then go for .net. They work the best.

Here is the order:
1. .com
2. .net
3. .org

I have tested this with multiple domains and .com almost always does better than other extensions.
