So is there like a bible for SEO?
Or do you know some books that are must reads to learn the basics of SEO?

Yes there is.
It is called Blackhatworld.com

But those that make it with seo are those that make their own 'bible' by testing.

Yeah, testing! The most important rule is that there is a big difference between what Google says and how it actually works.

Basics are always the same though: keyword research → on-page optimization → generating backlinks (linkbuilding).

BHW is the right place to start!

When you go throw about mentioned references, you would have a fare idea about SEO & Internet Marketing

No book worth your while. I have read some of those books out of curiosity, and they will do more harm than good for a newbie (excep for the onsite parts).

All you need is:
1. BHW (search function located conveniently on the upper left side)
2. Laptop with internet
3. Willingness to test
4. ahrefs subscription to really play around the serps and see whats working

No bible as such but if you know how to research methods on Google and forums you are halfway there

I would also recommend setting up alerts on Google for certain SEO areas you want to be kept upto date with.

There are too many people so there are too many bibles of SEO. My advise is to study SEO in different resources not only in BHW.

Try a lot of different things, track everything, and do more of whatever works. Don't believe everything you read or hear, even if it comes from a seemingly trustworthy source.

There are lots of highly authoritative blogs out there that focus on SEO.

If I were you, I would focus on looking at SEO news and trends websites by giving you the lowdown on the latest developments as far as actual results Google's changes have on people's rankings.

You should get enough ideas on how to do SEO.

The problem with going with a particular guru of some sort of training program is that the information gets outdated very quickly.

Also, people operate with all sorts of conflicts of interest, a lot of so-called gurus are basically just making their money pushing affiliate products on their so-called students.

If you're sick and tired of basically being pimped by people trying to supposedly teach you SEO, the best approach is to do it on your own.

I know this is not probably the answer you're looking for but they are definitely lots of free resources out there as far as SEO news sites are concerned.

If I was a newbie, I would do things that way because that way, I'm looking at things that are actually working instead of trusting somebody's word and having little to no results after months and possibly thousands of dollars invested in that person.
