i wasn't tryin to ruffle your feathers here, if i did then it wasn't the plan I must have missed the part about firing up rummer etc for whatever niche you mentioned above for link building. I am not personally after the knowledge as thankfully i have managed to get a bit of an insight into what works and what doesn't. I was just saying it'd be even nicer to know that after the recent updates, my experience is that G expects a different profile of links to compete against the bigger brand names and competitive industries than smaller niches.
To throw my 2 cents in (with your permission) here's my experience. I still rank page 1 for smaller niches for not so "high quality" links. By that i mean, directories, forums, article posts, a few social bookmarks and blog posts. The key for me has been to control the pace and add some articles to your site when you can.
For bigger sites, the game is different. It IS good quality that G wants and from the tests i have done, i have had to work on good quality links from sites that have NOT been slapped. That is a critical factor and probably the most difficult to figure out what site has been slapped (because good PR is no longer an indication of a sites quality). Other than that, buy links if you can from quality sites and combine them with guests posts, good site content, good article sites and lower profile links.
The above may differ from your approach but i'm throwing my 2cents to illustrate that it's not too hard to offer "free" advice. If it helps someone, then great, it doesn't effect me in anyway. If its come across as i am having a dig at your thread, then sorry, i didn't mean to, i just reckoned some members here will find an in depth look at link types useful. If not apologies and i will move on because i won't want one of these "i know more about seo" debates.
cheers and good luck
50cent....I really did not start the thread to gain your approval. Like I mentioned in the opening post. If I were promoting sites in the payday loans, porn, pills and gambling niches I would ramp up xrumer, gsa and the like. For local businesses I would look for sites that are local to get backlinks from, might even do a little video marketing as well as article marketing.
My point in posting this thread is that this is a business and needs to be treated as such. If I wanted to run a carpet cleaning business I would have to learn how to clean carpets...that would require me spending some time and money to learn how to do it. Then I would have to spend time and money learning how to run the business properly.
SEO and internet marketing are the same...you need to spend time and money learning the business. You can not just go to one of your competitors and say....please tell me all your secrets so I can steal your business.
There is already enough information on this one forum alone to enable someone to start and run a successful internet marketing company. No one needs me or anyone else to spoon feed them.
Now if you want me to spoon feed you then you'll have to pay me the same amount my clients pay if they are not under contract with our company for SEO services and that ain't cheap.
