SEO gig when I don't do SEO?

Ok so I do web design and usually do low end bargin basement type sites that are local to me. Everyone is always happy as they either had no website or one that would make your eyes bleed to look at. Fix em up something nice, maybe through em some social media stuff, collect my money and on to the next.

Well I got a really good paying gig on a site from someone across the country from me. Wasn't anything I planned but I did a nice mock up, threw up a pretty high price for what I usually do knowing it was lower then most places local to them and the accepted and have signed the contract and sent the check.

In talking with them they asked me what I knew about SEO and if I could do it or find them someone that would do it for a reasonable fee. So here is my issue. I know a little and i mean a little about SEO. I could probably read a few sites and learn something but I don't know if I would be willing to charge them for that. Would it be best to try and just find someone that does it cheap and then add a few bucks to it and be the middle man? Or hit fiverr and get em some traffic blasted and make em think I am a wizard? LOL

I am not even sure what kind of SEO they would need as its a higher end jewelry store and the end goal is to have people go IN the store and not order off the site. Any ideas? I would love to keep this White Hat or even Grey if needed but real Black Hat might bite me in the ass on this.

If you're really not sure what you're doing then fiverr could be a wrong turn. I used fiverr to start with on my first few sites which didn't really work out. Since then I've done a lot more reading and learning and whilst I still use fiverr I'm a lot more picky about the gigs I use and what I use them for.

If I was you I'd go down the middle man route for this contract and pick up some tips and learn a bit along the way. You never know, this could be something you could then add to your arsenal further down the line. Building sites and ranking them.

You could partner with someone on this forum and split the profits (I do that know with a web designer) or you can set a price and find some good services here in the BST section.

What is the budget for this client? Make sure to charge a fair price, think value not cost. I charge my clients $X,XXX per month depending on the niche.

If you don't know much about SEO, don't go buying up a ton of Fiverr gigs. You might end up doing more harm than good. I'd recommend reselling some BSTs that have had good reviews.

Just purchase some BST services here. I recommend seoblasts, they are pretty panda friendly.

I wouldn't recommend doing bh methods for his main site. If so, I'd keep it very minimum. You could end up blasting his site and next thing you know he's got back links to places where it shouldn't be. Also you can do a few seo on the site itself while doing things like google places, etc. Speeding up the site, proper tags, good content/key wording.

While Seo is really loosely used among people, you can try to incorporate social media marketing and have it in conjunction with seo. Clients usually tend to like quick results even though they understand how long seo can generally take.

I phased out building sites and focus more on seo/smm now because clients tend to be fickle and knit picky vs the gratification of me generating a presence for them resulting in revenue.

I would say learn more about SEO before you hire someone in the BST section so you have a good idea of what to do/not to do.

Outsource the SEO / Google Places work, get someone who can give you a referral on previous work done. PM me if your interested.

White hat SEO is not rocket science and you can have some grip on it after some effort. Start on-page for the clients first. I would recommend you t okeep the client to yourself and just outsource tasks you can't handle yourself.
