Well obviously we won't be using duplicate content. But, we will be using other peoples content and spin it for 2.0s.

Depending on your type of product, I wouldn't do seo for product pages unless it really makes sense. Product page seo is no different

I am selling electronics and those are the products with no
Brand. Do you add any photo in the web 2.0 to attract people visit the produce pages? Or just for link building only? Please advise.

I think only link building is sufficient to give you good result.

This thread is mostly a good discussion. I don't want to violate any forum terms of service or anything, but since a good bit of this discussion is about conversions, what CRO resources would you guys experienced in ecommerce recommend? Forums, books, etc...

Testing goes without saying, but are there any fresh resources out? Or good conversion minded communities/forums?

putting pictures in your backlinks helps attract traffic and makes the link more valuable.

Hello Blackhatters,

I forgot to update everyone on how things were going for me concerning my ecommerce site. I have since sold the site. My site was not like the typical ecommerce site. It was actually a hybrid ecommerce/blog site. It was successful and made me some good money.

Things I did to Rank My ecommerce/blog hybrid Site...

1. Created a blog section on the site and wrote related articles on similar topics and got almost all of those ranked on the first page of Big G.

2. Had each page and article optimized with my keyword and LSI keyword/keywords.

3. I used the usual methods for ranking each page/article.
A. Article Networks
B. Social Bookmarks
C. Wiki Links
D. Directory Submissions
E. Whois Site Submissions
F. Press Releases
G. Web 2.0
H. Forum Profiles
I. .Gov & .Edu Backlinks
J. Private Blog Networks
K. Youtube promotion for products
L. Facebook Fan Page Promotion of each page/article
M. Stumbleupon Marketing
N. Twitter Promotion/Retweeting
& maybe some more I cannot remember off the top of my head.

I went pretty deep into marketing/offsite seo for the site and it ranked for a lot of keywords. It managed to get it to PR3 level. My onsite SEO was really good when I got it tested it was like a A-. I optimized the images with my keyword/keywords, video, meta etc.

As far as the structure of the site at the end of each article I would have "Other Popular Pages" to encourage the reader to read on related topics & or get more information on the current topic. I also used the keywords I was trying to rank for in each title in this section of the blog.

If you have any questions feel free to ask me and I hope this helps someone.

Have an awesome day everyone.

I am going to assume you already decided on what to sell. From there, I am going to assume you don't have a website yet. Here are the important things, IMO, to rank a website:

1. Keyword in URL
2. Keyword in Title of site and description of site.
3. Keyword in page title, in the beginning of the first paragraph, sprinkled throughout the page at around a 3% keyword density, in a 800-1300 word article.
4. Bold, italicize, and underline keyword about 1 time, maybe more, but don't over do it.
5. Find related keywords (aka Latent Semantic Index, or LSI) by Googling your keyword and looking at the bottom on the SERPs. There's usually "related searches" Or, you can use Google's Keyword tool and they have related keywords as well.

This is ON-page SEO and only weighs in ranking about 20%?? Opinions differ.

MORE importantly is OFF-page SEO, aka back linking.

6. Start slow in getting back links (in other words, do not build 1000 links on the first day to a new site) You want to make the back links grow at a "natural" pace.
7. Keeping with "natural," get back links from DIVERSE sources. This is known as a "Diverse Back Link Profile." Get them from Article submissions, web 2.0 sites, social book marking sites, blog commenting, and best of all, contextual back links from "trusted"/ "authority" sites. This is easier said than done. Striking up relationships with high PR "authority" sites is the way to earn the privilege to post an article on their site (with your links inside, of course)

Just keep building back links and adding fresh content to your site and Google will notice you.

It takes time to SEO a site unless competition is low and/or you have powerful back linking partners.

This is why people just pay people to SEO a site.

Hope you got something from this

Thank you captain obvious ;)

i'm a joomla developer and the marriage between blog and ecom is k2. works like a charm for seo.

well for SEO of e commerce site, i would suggest you to do onsite as well offsite both.

This is a Great Thread and I will keep on following.
From my viewpoint, a huge number of products indeed gets a point. Genuine reviews have a point. And natural SEO will get more points.
For those who have few products, say below 100, use WP as ur CMS + ecommerce plugins. It would be a jumping start, twice faster than the ordinary ecommerce CMS.
Also, try to utilize EMD! I've tried using EMD with on-page SEO, WP + ecommerce for my cllient, some keywords rank no 1 within 3 weeks without dance. Hence, I canceled the off-line SEO works, since my client already satisfied with that.

Instead of starting a new thread, i will post in this great thread. Has the penguin update affected any of you? What changes need to be made post-penguin fot ecommerce sites?

One site with no keyword anchor diversity has lost every single ranking. Sites that have extreme keyword anchor diversity have not changed at all. 10% exact keyword rest all long tails

Great thread for eCommerce sites owners, well i am doing Replica and Original site.

I have a site that is really competitive on a lot of the keywords. The site itself has about 40k items which narrow down to approximately 20-30 brand tops. It's been really difficult to rank a lot of the keywords and some actually aren't even indexed in the search engine with exact url search. I've grazed the surface by doing typical social media, did the seo for it and pretty soon with Google shopping requesting to have paid merchant campaigns starting in Aug, I'm trying to quickly get these rankings up.

This site has been up for about 3-4yrs and PR is still 0. I've made many ecommerce sites which ranked really well, but this particular one is just not working.

It's really hard if I try to keyword, create articles for even a 3rd of the catalog. What do you guys suggest?

40k items is a lot, i cannot even imagine how to manage all of that. I'm guessing you dropship.
How did you Add so many items to your store?
eCommerce is a numbers game, you should bank hard with that many products if your item descriptions are unique

The client dropships or picks up since it's local. Good chunk is done through a feed using excel. Problem is that a lot of the keywords aren't ranking well and to do any bst's per keywords will be a ridiculous amount. Want to know what people are doing to rank well for sites who have at least over 10k items on the site.

Only option as of now is to some type of linkjuice for deeper niche items within the site and just play the numbers game like you said.

I don't understand why even typing in the exact product title doesn't even show up on some of the items. I don't think it's sandboxed or anything, and these products have been on the site for awhile.

You have to build a lot of links. Simple as that. Now, how do you build a lot of quality links? Zennoposter. Ranking long tails wont work with any BST. You need to simply build a lot of links and the only way to do that is with custom templates
