OP, learn more about the Penguin update, specifically the anchor text diversity issue. My guess is your SEO team used tons of exact match anchors. You need to reduce the percentage of those by adding raw URL variations and generic anchors like "click here".

Learn about what kind of links are considered as spammy, unnatural by Gogle.

Then use a good backlink analyzer such as Majestic SEO to get a realistic idea about your backlinks and the anchor texts used. Also check other factors like the link velocity.

Next, try to get rid of as many spammy and unnatural links as possible. And, try to get more relevant links, contextual links from authority sites. Keep your link velocity slow but steady.

When a Penguin update occurs, check if your efforts get paid. Good luck !

Sorry to hear that man! Hope you're getting back on track. Luckily I haven't been hit by Google updates this year. I've had some other setbacks which was very frustrating but you've got to just pick yourself up and get back on the case! Oh and don't put all your eggs in one basket and all that.

man i feel for you i too was hit by google panda updates and after that it was time to move on and now i am only promoting my sites using whitehat methods.

Just do more seo and see if it will recover. If its not penalized find a different seo company and rank for the same keyword. Shouldn't be too hard if you were top before.
