Has anyone ever made a referral program for their SEO company that was highly successful in generating leads?

What kind of SEO company you're looking for? For example, it could be just link building or the whole SEO campaign.

The whole SEO campaign, in my mind it would be current clients who use me for SEO referring me to their friend's businesses who need SEO. I just can't figure out what an appropriate incentive would be.

I offer 10% for all web design referrals, ie. you refer a client to me, they pay and you receive 10% of what they pay. You could try the same but only offer it on the first month, so if you get a client paying £200 pm, offer 10% payout based on one month (not the whole campaign). People love free stuff, so just give it them but be wise as you don't want to shoot yourself in the foot.

10% is pretty good. I might think about referring for 10%

Thanks that actually helps a lot. I was thinking about 10% for the whole contract period, but 10% on the first month is more reasonable.

It is definitely a worthwhile incentive for referrals and it helps release the workload if lots of people are effectively helping you promote your business.
