Its a never ending debate.
Bot are good and great in their special features
Also, if you are trying as a freelancer, you can try some other cost effective tools along with these.

Both are great tools and people have different choices about these two tools. But if you are thinking about prices then you can go for Semrush.
 
I think Semrush is good, Ahrefs is also good but is expensive.
 
For a starting SEO freelancer, I'd suggest going with SEMRUSH's Pro package. It may have less options, but it's still a great tool for keyword research and competitor analysis. Plus, at $120 it's more affordable than AHREFS. As you grow, you can always upgrade to a higher plan or switch to AHREFS if you need more accurate data.

Semrush in my opinion
 
both Semrush and Ahrefs are excellent tools, and which one you choose will depend on your individual needs and preferences. You may want to consider trying out both tools with a free trial to see which one works best for you.

If you want benefits of both, you should go with both. To save money, go with group buy.
 
According to my point of view, AHREFS is best because it's old and more clients demand is AHREFS.WHY?
Because it's gives you WEBSITE STATS according to GOOGLE POLICIES. So, I prefer AHREFS. BUT, SEMRUSH is also good for SEO.
