Hi there! I'm new to using Semrush and would appreciate some guidance on keyword research. If anyone could share their workflow or tips, especially on finding a balance between monthly searches and competition for a focus keyword, that would be really helpful. Additionally, I remember coming across an in-depth post about keyword research in the White Hat SEO section a few days back, but I can't seem to locate it now. It covered how to conduct keyword research and select secondary keywords for content. Could someone kindly point me to that post? Many thanks!

Welcome! I find it useful to start by brainstorming a list of potential keywords related to my niche or topic. Then use Semrush's Keyword Magic Tool to expand on those ideas, focusing on balancing monthly search volume and competition. Look for keywords with a decent search volume but lower competition to optimize your chances of ranking well.

Do you think there is a "sweet spot" in terms of the search volume versus competition?

Start with broad keywords, then drill down to long-tails with the 'Questions' filter. Aim for keywords where you can balance volume and competition—look at 'Keyword Difficulty'. Mix in long-tails for higher conversion potential. Can't pinpoint the White Hat post, but a quick search on the forum for "keyword research guide" should get you there.

Streamline your SEO with Semrush: Start by entering a seed keyword, analyze metrics, find keyword gaps, and optimizing content.
