This is crap. It's like Hilton Hotels buying Tripadvisor. There is only one possible reason and that's to manipulate SEO PR in their favour. I bet Ahrefs are gutted.

Semrush would become the number recommended SEO tool on the website even on older posts. I think when they bought backlinko a well ago they did the same thing or something similar.
