Semi-serious post about Kindle moneymaking

Hello guys, i’m in the kindle business since a couple of years. It’s hard. Really hard, but you guys already know it. Well, i was thinking, what stops someone from, instead of crafting brand new content, just “copy” content from others successfull authors?

I don’t mean copying, literally. I mean:

-Take it from the us/uk market
-Translate in another language
-Refurbish making minor changes (character names, some scenes, details in general...)
-Publish in another market with high quality cover and blurb

Why people don’t do that since it’s a matemathical recipe for success? Ofc, taking from top tier bestsellers wouldmean getting busted in no time. So we will take from top tier indies.

Yes,it’s a lot of manual work but isn’t it a lot of manual work writing 20 fict books per year by yourself?

I’m just curious about it, the no-shortcut way it’s the one i choose. What are your toughts?

There are automatic plagiarism detectors, I suspect Amazon is advanced enough for it to work across languages.

Yes it is. But we are talking about another language, different characters names, different details, different cover and title, rewritten scenes, rewritten ending. This would make too much of a difference for any algorithm.
 
The issue is, i don’t see the risk. Even translated, the book wouldn’t be a literal - google like translation, but an approximatively translation made from a non mother language english speaker into another language. I don’t see ways to be busted. @Pinger030 what do you think, man? You are the boss in the kindle game.
 
I actually have no idea about Kindle Game. However, can't you get sued by plagiarism?
This can get you in real-world problems, isn't it?

This is definitely a risk worth taking note. But how can someone be sure it’s worth to sue you? Let’s face it, many, many creative stuff really looks like one another.
Take a look at the time-travel narrative niche. Or fantasy. Everyone should be sueing everyone.
 
Amazon does direct to print on demand publishing, you could always just find a way to generate adult coloring books from stock photograpghy(there are software that could do that) and design an adult coloring book from the autogenerated coloring book pages, instant profit :p
 
I did that before with one of my own books. It was a 15.000 words short story collections. I used the translate file option in google translate and rehashed the cover and description.

In the end it took me longer to fix all the mistakes the translator had made than what it took me to write all the stories myself int he first place. It was a nice learning experience though but I surely don't want to go through it again.

only 2 off the top of my head: Adobe Capture for android & ios. converts images taking with a smartphone camera to outlines, and theres an app on github, written in nodejs, the repository comes up if you search for: PaintByNumbers

Had some fun trying that, but the result is unprofessional unless you are good with graphics and know what you are doing - you may want copyrighted vectorials for best results but those are a pain for price or risks. Interesting output anyway, thanks
 
Whoever is using this method will not tell you its working, right? You have to find the answer yourself, start a journey, I will follow. :rolleyes:
 
If you can get the authors permission (usually you pay royalties) its more than possible.
 
Amazon probably has the technology to check for this kid of stuff.
