The Segwit2x effort began in May with a simple purpose: to increase the
blocksize and improve Bitcoin scalability. At the time, the Bitcoin
community was in crisis after nearly 3 years of heavy debate, and consensus
for Segwit seemed like a distant mirage with only 30% support among miners.
Segwit2x found its first success in August, as it broke the deadlock and
quickly led to Segwit’s successful activation. Since that time, the team
shifted its efforts to phase two of the project - a 2MB blocksize increase.

Our goal has always been a smooth upgrade for Bitcoin. Although we
strongly believe in the need for a larger blocksize, there is something we
believe is even more important: keeping the community together.
Unfortunately, it is clear that we have not built sufficient consensus for
a clean blocksize upgrade at this time. Continuing on the current path
could divide the community and be a setback to Bitcoin’s growth. This was
never the goal of Segwit2x.

As fees rise on the blockchain, we believe it will eventually become
obvious that on-chain capacity increases are necessary. When that happens,
we hope the community will come together and find a solution, possibly with
a blocksize increase. Until then, we are suspending our plans for the
upcoming 2MB upgrade.

We want to thank everyone that contributed constructively to Segwit2x,
whether you were in favor or against. Your efforts are what makes Bitcoin
great. Bitcoin remains the greatest form of money mankind has ever seen,
and we remain dedicated to protecting and fostering its growth worldwide.

Good riddance. This was a huge clusterfuck in the making. Glad they came to their senses, even if it is to save face.

It was just to save face. They were defeated by the community. Everywhere on social networks NO2X became a tag under every influential name in crypto.

Alts start blooming

This is really great news, I hate these bankers trying to takeover Bitcoin!

Time to invest more $$$

But I think people mainly only care about the fact that the price of Bitcoin will fall, fall, fall. :D

Good news for me, my main holdings are in Ethereum (up 8.57% today) and OmiseGo (up 27.47 today) both increases seem due to the announcement, hoping it holds/increases.

Ah yes, the long slide back to $1,000 begins.

Let me guess. You never pulled the trigger on BTC and now secretly hope it crashes so you can stop feeling bad about all that money you could have made but never did, and proclaim you knew it was a ponzi scheme all along? Either that or you are out of your mind if you think we are going back to $1k or anywhere close to it.

I never realized with this fork how 1 developer can scare shit out of all btc world. Someone have made huge profits here.

Only 5 real commits by 1 developer into segwit2x code base, very few lines of code has been changed for brainfuck, and the whole world gone mad haha, nobody was ever intended to do any fork. Well, the hard fork only intended to double the blocksize limit. You do not need to change a lot of code to accomplish that. They also had support from some big industry players. I doubt they never actually intended to go through with it and simply wanted to 'manipulate' the market.

Depends where the Asian markets will take this when they wake up in a few hours. There's good reason to believe there will be a correction after this news, because the price increase lately was largely due to people switching their alts to BTC in the anticipation of getting "free monies" from the hard fork. If you take a look at the alt coin prices since the news broke and the dip in BTC price (after the brief rally), you can see this is already happening. But then again, who the fuck knows with crypto? Either way, I am fairly certain BTC will be toeing that $10k mark by year's end.

I've bought bitcoin, and I've sold bitcoin, and I've made a profit from it. Nothing astronomical, but I've gained a few thousand between bitcoin, ethereum, and litecoin. Like everyone else, I wish I would have done things differently, but such is the case with almost all investments, crypto or not.

Do I hope it crashes? No. Is it going to crash? Definitely. Is it a secret that I think it will crash? Absolutely not. Do I feel bad about all the money I could have made? Not for a second. Do I think it's a ponzi scheme? Not at all. Do I think it's a terrible investment vehicle? I sure do. Have I been proclaiming this all along? Yes, I most definitely have. Am I out of my mind? Maybe. Do I think it will drop all the way to $1,000? I very much do.

Will I be on the front lines with a big fat I told you so once it happens? No. Because I know you read this, and I know you will remember, and I could not care less.
