Hello everyone,

I’ve been working in SEO for almost three years, but until now I’ve focused mostly on old-school tactics rather than modern SEO. That’s because I work within an organization handling multiple projects across different niches. Now I want to know what strategies I should apply to drive more traffic and achieve strong rankings.

Specifically, I’m looking for guidance on:

  • Building topical authority: How can I establish my sites as go-to resources in their respective niches?
  • Generating high-quality backlinks: What are the best approaches to earn authoritative links?
  • Creating authoritative content outlines: How do I structure content so it both ranks well and attracts traffic?
  • Identifying user-intent topics: What methods or tools can I use to uncover the right topics that match searcher intent?
  • Finding the most effective backlink types: Which kinds of links deliver the greatest impact, and how do I locate those opportunities?

Additionally, any advice from your experience on On-Page, Technical, or Off-Page SEO would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance for your insights!

I doubt if you will get anything else than generic advice. SEO as a field is so vast and many successful people in this industry are masters of certain verticals/ niches and why would they share their trade secrets? Totally counterintuitive.

Modern SEO Strategies:
  • Build content hubs (pillar + cluster model)
  • Cover all subtopics within a niche deeply
  • Use semantic SEO (LSI, NLP-friendly terms)
  • Update content regularly with new insights
  • Analyze SERPs to match search intent
  • Add expert quotes or insights for EEAT
  • Guest posting on niche-relevant sites
  • HARO (Help a Reporter Out) responses
  • Digital PR campaigns (data-driven stories)
  • Linkable assets (stats, tools, infographics)
  • Ego bait (interviews, roundups, mentions)
  • Internal linking to boost existing pages
  • Keyword mapping to intent and funnel stage
  • Use short paragraphs, bullets, and headers
  • Optimize for featured snippets (FAQ, how-to)
  • Add multimedia (videos, charts, images)
  • Schema markup (FAQ, HowTo, Review, etc.)
  • A/B test titles and meta descriptions
  • Optimize for Core Web Vitals and mobile UX

That's really helpful, thanks for sharing it.

To build topical authority, consistently create comprehensive, expert-level content and earn backlinks from high-authority, niche-relevant sites; use tools like Ahrefs or SEMrush to identify user-intent topics, structure content with clear headings and semantic relevance, and pursue high-quality, contextual backlinks from trusted domains.

You were spot on with 'I doubt if you will get anything else than generic advice' - pretty much all from bots too!

You’ve made some solid points — it’s great to see someone with experience in modern SEO taking the next step.

1. Topical Authority: Start by building strong content clusters around your main topic. Use tools like AlsoAsked or Google’s “People Also Ask” to naturally expand into subtopics. Internal linking is important - link to all related pages to reinforce the depth of the topic.
2. High-quality backlinks: Focus on relevance and context. Aged domains, HARO responses, and special editions on digital PR (data-driven content) are working well in 2025. Avoid shotgun outreach, build real relationships for sustainable links.
3. Authoritative Content Outline: Use competitor analysis (SurferSEO, Phrase, or manual check) to identify common H2/H3 structures. Include entities and FAQs that Google already loves. This provides both SEO power and user value.
4. User intent is important: In addition to tools like Semrush or Ahrefs, use forums, Reddit, or niche subreddits to find real-world questions that people are asking. Matching content to the searcher’s mindset makes a huge difference in engagement and CTR.
5. Effective link types: Editorial in-content links still perform best on niche-relevant sites. In many SERPs, contextual relevance now seems to outweigh raw domain metrics.

Also, don’t skip technical SEO: page speed, schema markup, and clean site structure are still essential. Good luck with your transition – you’re on the right track!
