New design is good !!!
But you can add some more features and make it more attractive using some animations and flash.
And also you have used too many div so it seems to be scattered. So try to combine these.

Now see my new improved version of the design. I still need you people to give comment on this new improved design so I can make it more attractive and can be a designer by doing <b>Hard Wok</b>

It looks pretty good, but you should remove the borders around the pictures and get some social buttons (FB & Twitter etc.) in a more prominent position. It's good for a first site

Your skills cant be judged just one. Look around the web for pages you like, then try to make your design with your own style and play with colors more.

The first design was really basic, the second design really improved on the look.
I think that aesthetically the colours do not match - or they just do not do it for me.
The brown (or what looks like brown) border matched with the Red - not a good colour combination.
You are definately on the right track.
As said before - take a look at some of the theme designers on themeforest.net
And do not give up - if design is what you want to do - then go for it... All the nay sayers were not good at SEO either - and they still carry on

The first one was not bad for a simple website design/layout.
However, i was was really imprased with the IMPROVED one. (Judging from the first one)
Answer to your question: Yes you can become Web Designer, just practice, make more websites, learn languages, be patient, AND PRACTICE MORE! Cheers.

its perfectly functional but way too boring. looks like it was made in 1997. im sure if you keep working on it youll get there man!

Because skills just magically come naturally of course. It's not as if they're developed over time or anything silly like that.
You can be whatever you want to be if you work at it - not subjected to what everyone else thinks you can be.
You've already proven you can take feedback and apply it to your work, so you're on your way.
