    Hello Everyone, and happy holidays!

My partner and I are in the process of finishing up an AWESOME screenshot and image upload service / app. It functions as a standalone application for Window/Mac/Linux AND has the ability to upload images via the web. We should have the beta of this done by the 7th of January. The application has a lot going for it, and in the opinion of the many people we asked, is far superior to the competition. Not only is the app extremely simple to use, but it's also completely free.

So here is the question... How do we spread word about this?

I have a few things in mind so far: Press Release, SEO (on-site and off-site), word of mouth, youtube reviews, and... Pages on twitter and FB

    Thanks for your help!

(Per the permission of the moderators, I would like to post a link to it once we finish the beta.)

Sorry, I guess I didn't give enough detail... Our service is a hybrid between a desktop app and a web platform. What makes this unique is the execution of everything as a whole. The application easily allows you to take a screenshot (which in windows is a pain in the ***) and effortlessly edit the screenshot, upload it, and provide an easy-to-remember link. You are also able to upload individual photos or photo albums very easily. PLUS, you are able to use the same application on Windows, Mac, and Linux.

Now for the web... Via the web, you are able to view all your photos from one screen. You can organize them, send links to friends, and make them public or keep them private. The interface is clean and sleek, so that already makes it better than 75% of the image upload services. ;)

We are also considering a way for users to monetize their photos / albums. Very much like how Youtube partners work, you could sign up with us and request to be a partner, which, if at that point your request is accepted, you will receive a portion of the revenue for each picture that is "unlocked" via our content locker. Example: A while back, some "pictures" of the duchess of cambridge were leaked. If the leak had been posted on our site, the user would fill out a quick survey and have access to view the gallery.

We are mainly banking on the integration between the desktop app and web service.

That is Pix in a nutshell.

I think that is a great idea, because it can become very tedious to manage all your image uploads.
Now, a few things that come to mind that are important to me, and maybe others.

First, for an image site I do not need a bunch of crap all over the place, making me search for the upload button. I noticed you said sleek, but how sleek is it? Imgur does/did a really good job of just a large size upload button in the middle of the screen, but now its become more clunky. Not a big deal, but it can have a massive impact.

Additionally, I fear that the idea of unlocking images will be abused and eventually lead to an annoying image platform. Lets say, for example, someone has a picture of some super model "never before seen" and they lock it, but when someone does the survey or whatever, it's a picture of a car or something in reality. This could be free money for the owner, so a moderation system might have to be introduced.

I have noticed too that on PPD sites for instance, the page becomes so berating that I would rather leave and maybe not get the item I was after because the there were too many things fighting for my attention or no clear way to find what I was actually looking for.

Back on topic of your original post however, I do believe some simple SEO and could get you launched, with the help of advertising and stuff. I'm not expert, but it sounds good.
I personally feel that, done right, this could take off but change does not come easily so it should be tested heavily before being fully released.

Again, I am no genius or really a worthwhile opinion, but I'd love to see this come online.

    Best of luck to you!

Thank you everyone, I greatly appreciate all your advice!

Our program is just a week away from being release, so keep your eyes peeled!

The site is going to be just the bare necessitates for the beginning. The first run of Imgur would be a fair comparison to what we have in mind.

We have thought this over multiple times, but a standard solution simply isin't available. We could use automated tools, but they have a high rate of failure. We could also employ Mods, but it will take thousands to keep up with the uploads. We are simply considering a flag button which will signal one of the few Mods to take a look at the picture and deem the next necessary move.

This is a big issue, but most webmasters have to find a balance. Enough Ad's so they make some money, and not too many, so the users don't get annoyed. We are certainly going to experiment with this, as user experience is #1.

I will definitely do that! Thanks!

Any suggestions are still welcome, and I truly appreciate those who have already posted!

As always, Happy early New Years!
