Agreed. Experience and actual samples of previous work speak more than unfounded claims of having a calling/passion to write.

Thanks, great share. A good budget is also needed to get quality, as you can`t expect amazing contect for $3/500 words

A few things I'd add:

1. Actually read the sales thread of the writer you're thinking of hiring. They probably wrote it themselves and it's as good an indication of skill as any trial copy.
2. Don't expect good quality for $2 per 500 words. Either you'll find a non native writer or your native writer will disappear once they discover $2 per 500 words is well bellow the minimum wage in any western country.
3. Once you find a decent writer who'll put the hours in look after them. They're a rare beast indeed!
