sanbox for new site a myth

Some people say Sandbox is about Velocity, or lack of it.
what does that means?

Its the velocity at which you build links.
Your Velocity should be consistent and gradually increasing.
If you build 100 links day one and stop you get 'Sandbox'. If you do not build links and on day 90 build 1000 links, 'Sandbox'. Your Velocity is what triggers google filters. A sudden spike will put those links on the google 7 week de - value period. If you are lucky no penalty or manual review and after that period you are good to go.
Or you can be consistent when you start building links and nothing will happen to you.

I have a site at the moment which I think is experiencing some kind of 'sandbox' - I've put around 30 articles on for well researched topics, built some good links, and though I wasn't expecting to be number one, I've got an internal page at number 200+ for my main keyword.
What do you think, stick at it?

Has nothing to do with it. I have just put up a website two weeks ago - content is NOT 100% original (site has about 30 pages). 3 days after it went live, it's now ranking in the top 20 for most of the targeted keywords (all low comp). Immediately after the site was ready, i started building links to it. So no sandbox here, but i have to say the on page optimization is spot on.

There is no sandbox, as mickyfu said, it's just a "term" invented by those people who have no idea what they are doing in SEO.

some times you hit the sandbox and sometimes you don't. It's becoming similar to myth of monalisa smile.
