Just wondering what peoples strategies are for selling SEO to off-line clients.

My company normally sells a complete SEO package for a fixed monthly charge, but I want to tighten things up a bit (perhaps charge per keyword or something similar).

Juswt wondering what strategies/sales pitches other people here use, and how you sell SEO.

I know some of you may not want to divulge tactics, but Im just looking for some general pointers.

I charge monthly per keyword in top 5. It really seems to sell itself once you get one well connected client. Everyone asks him how he boosted his sales and then he refers them to me :D. So generally speaking word-of-mouth is best...

    Cheers

so you don't start charging until you deliver?
I am thinking similar, maybe a monthly fee per keyword and also a setup cost for on-page.

I get most of my business from word-of-mouth and partner firms (other seo companies that use my white label program).

I generally charge on PPK (price per keyword). My company researches the competition, likely hood of ranking in top 3, historical ranking data, and many other factors to come up with the price.

Basically, you need to determine a pricing model that works for your business. Some SEO companies sell *COUGH* Bull$hit *COUGH* package deals, other companies charge based on if they obtain a certain position, some charge based on keywords, volume of keywords, or obtain xx% increase in traffic.

The question is, "What can your company actually do?".

    - Do you have the balls to offer a guaranteed ranking position?
    - Can you really obtain top position?
    - Are you an expert in driving traffic?
    - How confident are you of your techniques?

and so on. Depending on your answer to these questions will determine the direction you should go for pricing. At the end he day though, make sure you are happy with your pricing model and make sure it provides the foundation for a long term business.

just my 2 cents- a couple of potential clients that i'm trying to close- I used to work for them so I asked them about there seo- offline etc. They had mixed feelings as they have used prevous seo companies. So I asked what would it take to get your business. - They mentioned if me or another seo company would provide there services free for the first month or at least half if would really make a difference.

    hope this helps-

I am sort of thinking now to charge per keyword - perhaps £30 per month per keyword or somewhere around that amount- I deal with very small businesses mostly who have only recently acquitted a web presence.

Obviously those prices are rough and don't account for varying levels of competition etc.

I am still considering out-spicing the work, but once again I don't know if our average clients budget would allow for enough of a profit margin to keep everyone happy.

With regard to offering a month free, I have thought about that, but I think that's giving away too much - you can't expect anything good for nothing.

I would prefer just to do a rolling monthly contract and if they are not happy at the end of any one month, they can pull out- I might note that I'm not really selling instant results, but steady improvement and growth using both blackhat and whitehat.
