Hello guys
Can you explain to me what is the role of a sitemap when there is the Fetch feature in the Google Webmaster Tools.
The fetch will speed up indexing the website, so whats the added value in a sitemap?
Thank you

The sitemap is more so for the googlebot.

Googlebot can go to your sitemap url where it can find every page on the website all in one spot instead of crawling all around.

I often check the site map if I can't get a handle on the website navigation or structure.

A good site map is like an index in a book...if you're old enough to remember books that is.

Site maps are good for use ability so you should have one to help humans get the most value from your site.

So you mean instead of fetching every url manually by myself the sitemap can help indexing my blog all at once automatically?

Sorta, googlebot will go to your sitemap and crawl the urls.

You can also fetch your sitemap url and then tell google to crawl the links on the page.

The sitemap helps the site for a better indexing, better and faster. Itt is more for the google bots, not for human users.
