In my opinion, consider the founder of Yahoo, Yangzhiyuan and others said like Alibaba, these names definitely come from the Chinese language, Yang is a first name of Chinese name, while Alibaba is an old story of gold finding.
The new name, Altaba, is a bit like above too, though even in Chinese language, its SUCKs, because I dont even know what is is mean, maybe the most related one is: like FUCK YOU!

Hmm. Another dinosaur is gone. I thought it's Yahoo brand name that has value (apart from user base). So what will happen to the Yahoo name ? They will simply abandon it ?

Buying domains with the new company name in it is probably a pretty stupid idea. Good way to get in trouble. I once bought a big company's name + SEO and within two weeks their lawyers contacted me threatening a lawsuit. In the end I parked the domain and let it expire.

Yahoo will remain yahoo. It's the leftover parts of the business that the buyers don't want will be called altaba. Why would they buy a big brand for billions or whatever and rebrand it. The parts that remain yahoo are the consumer web business including yahoo mail.
