Also, what da fuck is up with colleges changing like 2 pages from a 200 book and then forcing students to buy "the latest edition" every fucking new school year. ARHHHHHH fucking scammers! -_-

Good point the kid made. But it is a hard job teaching. Very hard to motivate kids to learn these days. Especially when the pay is naff and your under more pressure to get results on paper than you are to really inspire and motivate kids.
 
The thing you're all overlooking is that maybe, just maybe, the educational system "got" this way on purpose. I have a theory why this is happening (not 100% original, a lot of people came to these conclusions on their own):

Easier to control masses. Let me ask you, who's easier to control? A person who reads books, has an education and knowledge about history, literature, math, etc and can formulate pertinent opinions, and furthermore, will never take anything you say to him for granted? Or a person who has no goals, no purpose in life and believes that France is just a city in the country of Europe?! Stupid people are easy to manipulate and believe ANYTHING you say without questioning it, if you're an authority. That's how they got away with invading Iraq for oil after they destroyed the twin towers THEMSELVES (of course there's no real proof of that, except some half mouth testimonies from former officials). And remember the Koni scandal... Of course, they didn't want everybody to be retarded so they created the private school system where the filthy rich can get a top notch education. Why? Because those who have control will die eventually, they need competent people to replace them. You won't trust a 'tard that doesn't know the Earth orbits the Sun to run shit now would you?!

And it's not just the education system. No, the guys that run shit are smarter than that. Maybe a few will escape school with some degree of knowledge... So let's:

- give scandal and soulless morons as their idols and stuff them with it every time we can ( I'm talking about Kanye, Jersey Shore, Miley Cirrus, Kardashians, Jerry Springer, scandal newspapers, so on and so forth)
- take from them any chance of getting any sort of cultural information in the mass media (for fucks sake, on HISTORY Channel now you can only see "How the aliens built everything on earth", "the Chumlee show were they scam people into selling old shit", "rednecks driving trucks in the winter", "rednecks chopping trees", "rednecks living in the mountains", "rednecks buying storage lockers", "rednecks restoring old shit", "semi-rednecks traveling the country and buying garbage from peoples backyards". Where is the History in that?!)
- give them fear and stress constantly (the world war 3 is upon us, the world is ending, the ice age is coming, we will be hit by an asteroid, the economics is collapsing, prepare for the end)

In the 1500's where 1% of the population knew how to write, things were easier. You tell the peasants what to do, and they do it.. If they get hot and bothered, you go out in the town square and say "The sky will fall on us! But wait, there's more! God will smite us all with lightnings! But wait! I have the solution!!! Give me 2 cows per capita and we'll sacrifice them in the name of the Lord! OH and also, give me 3 virgins and a witch, I feel kinky tonight! And tomorrow, we will burn them on the stake"

I truly believe that the plot from the movie called "Idiocracy" is already happening and will become true in my lifetime.

And this trend of retarding the masses is world wide. It's happening in my country too. At the end of the communist era, till the 2000's the educational system was working. Same shitty salaries as in the US (even shittier), same low to none learning conditions (class equipments, technology, so on..). And the educational system kept working until a few years ago when the 90's kids grew up and got into highschool. And then the shit hit the fan, since 2007 the SAT's promotion rate went down, and it got to a point where, in 2013 70% of the students in the public system failed their SAT's on the first try (in my country you can take the SAT's twice in a year and still be eligible for college in the same year). And behold, private schools are popping up like mushrooms, all with excelent education curriculums, lots of extra curricular activities, professional forming classes, opening the minds of youngsters and preparing them for the world, for a "small" fee of course.

So yeah, that's my opinion. Long rant...

I know YOU know that, and I know you know that I know that too, but maybe other users here don't... and I should've changed the word from "overlooking" to the phrase "not mentioning" in the sentence you've quoted. To be really on topic, it's not the kids fault, it's not the teachers fault, it's not even the system's fault.

The system is working perfectly, only not to our advantage.

Is it really so unbelievable that people just are lazy from all the modern luxuries? Being dumb is just easier than becoming educated. And really, how many people has such idols who you're taking about for more than a few years? I've never met anyone who didn't outgrow bad idols like those. And rednecks are incredibly funny to watch, and I guess that's why they're being shown on television as that's what people wants to see. I find it hard to believe that every media is owned by the same people rather than being businesses who wants to make themselves the most profit possible.

Maybe I'm just from a small unimportant country, who the alien overlords has no interest in, but the school I attended when I was 16-19 years old (don't know the American equivalent of this) was very educational. The vast majority of teachers were very passionate about the classes they taught, and all classes had room for discussions, fun, and not least interactive education where lots of facts would be tested and/or proven. Lots of the teachers mainly used books to have some tasks for us to do, as they would much rather speak about the subject through their own passion. I could have learnt so much like everyone around me did, but I choose to not care and smoke and drink a lot. It's not the fault of alien overlords that I'm rather stupid today, it's the fact that I choose to take the easy path, which I believe lots of people are doing today. As the video in the OP shows then teachers in some countries has also chosen this route.

Yes, Its becoming a trend now. Degree is everything. I really hate this system. Teacher teachs for money and students learn for degree. That's all happening..

I 'm sorry, the kids I knew when I was going to school were not lazy or stupid. The did become though! They were simply not given any incentive to study and no opportunity to study something they might like. Not all people like the same things. I was considered the local genius because I happened to really like some of the topics, but it was also obvious that other kids under-performed because they simply did not find that shit attractive. That 's what happens when you are forcing a "one-size-fits-all" education style.

Is the concept of "feedback loop" really so hard to grasp?

Obviously you can choose to not better yourself. You have every right to. The point is, if someone wants to better himself, is the educational system helping him do that? Even more, does the educational system even bother to explain why one should better himself?

As did I. I went to public school and it was educational as well. I also had passionate teachers (not in a weird way). In my day we had private schools and only the lazy/stupid went there (they were the ones who didn't have the grades to get into highschool, or college for that matter). But TODAY, the system is not the same, maybe in your country it's not bad, YET...

I see there are too many differences between our countries for me to properly put myself in your shoes. I do not recognize this one-size-fits-all education style in my country, as education is very flexible in my country and education is very encouraged as you get paid to go to school from the age of 18. From the age of 15-16 you can choose whatever direction you want to further study and you choose your classes accordingly. And I've seen the majority of people knows exactly what direction they want to take at that point, because they had a school with passionate and engaging teachers who loved their job. These teachers definitely gave those who I grew up with the incentive to stay in school, as one would quickly realize whatever direction felt most appealing. Also in my country you'd be paid to take an education whether it be as an elementary school teacher or a doctor, so you have every opportunity to become whatever you want to.

I appreciate the fact that you have very different views than me and you're willing to defend those views in an educated way. However I feel like I'm going to shoot myself in the foot if I try arguing too deeply. I'll keep believing in the best in everyone and having joy from ignorance being a bliss.
 
many teachers are like that one, i had really good ones and bad ones also, we can tell the difference by the students in the class
