Apparently it didn't used to count towards total post count: https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/post-count-not-increasing.376120/

@MisterF made a thread suggesting this back in March here: https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/boosting-post-counts.925597/ and there was some alright discussion about it, with good points made by @Apricot, @WilhelmScream, and @Zwielicht, as well as a solid burger recipe.

We saw this being an issue last month with the spam branded accounts spamming their own and other intro threads to boost post counts. This thread with Jeff brings this back to light.

Last that was heard, it was being discussed four months ago. Is there an update on this?

It's a solution that existed before, and would clearly cut down on spamming/scamming. I feel like the removal of non-Jr. VIP members posting in HAF was a great step in the right direction for cutting down on vulnerabilities, and this would be another step in the right direction as well.

Thanks.

While I think retroactively removing the post counts increases from Introductions on all accounts would do a lot to stop the section from getting spammed, I'm concerned that the drastic change in post counts could also cause issues.

Unless they can fix that I don't think it's a good idea.

They'd just move to another section anyway and you can't just keep blocking post counts. Even though it's easier to get away with on the introductions threads, it's still possible on other subs so wouldn't stop the problem just move it elsewhere.

That would be a solid argument for a new members section. I believe that was being tossed around by the BHW administration team as well. Along with Marketplace overhauls. I'd love to see a list of some potential ideas and changes that are in the works!

1. Buy more Doritos
2. Make sure the fridge door is closed after using it.
3. Wash the cars once per month minimum.
4. Check paypal money generator.

I have to agree with this, hands down. I enjoy welcoming new members when I'm in a good mood, but I don't care about increasing post count for doing so - if you're welcoming new members to boost post count, it's not really a genuine welcome - just a cheap ploy to hit X # of posts as easily as possible.

Re: drastic change in post counts could also cause issues.

Good. Users who post so much and so exclusively in the introductions forum that they actually notice a change is clearly trying to inflate their post count, anyway. Anyone who can't contribute at least a few moderately coherent posts to the marketing forums on here probably doesn't deserve to have PM access or to be able to upgrade to sell in the marketplace.

@elavmunretea makes a good point, though. BHW needs a trash can for spam bots and the introductions forum is the best option at the time being.

Edit: If feasible with BHW's backend, maybe something like a cap to how much your post count can increase from the introductions forum. Something like:

Code:
user_post_count = number_of_posts_made_excluding_introductions_forum

if (num_posts_in_introductions_forum > account_age_in_days)
  user_post_count += account_age_in_days
else
  user_post_count += num_posts_in_introductions_forum

Hopefully that pseudocode is coherent.

Point being, something that would cripple spambots but not real users.

Other idea is something like adding a minimum number of thanks-eds to access particular forum features. E.g., instead of 15 posts to PM, 15 posts and 5 thanks-eds. Instead of 100 posts for Jr. VIP, 100 posts and 50 thanks-eds. Something like that would actually be fairly tricky to game, since the thanks feature shows who thanks-ed the post. If you're seeing 0 thanks-eds from notable users and entirely thanks-ed circles, that'd be a footprint that'd be fairly difficult to avoid. This forum's fairly small; everyone knows everyone else.

Which one ?

There are so many copying and pasting each others " welcome " and " welcome to the forum " just to boost post count, it becomes pointless. There was a suggestion that members would stop using that section, but it hasn't stopped posts in the lounge

Lounge isn’t counted

I know, that's why I said it lol! You could read the post again
No, but it is a good way to gain thanks and dilute your posts-to-thank ratio. I think if @Sherbert Hoover doesn't want the introduction section to count towards your post, then the same should be done for the Lounge section regarding thanks. That way it will close that loophole that @Sherbert Hoover is clearly using.

Honestly sounds like a great idea and one I would for sure co-sign. Posts in Introductions forum really shouldn't count toward post count anyway.

What I don't understand is the obsession with post count though? Like what's the big deal? What does it get someone if they have a fuck load of posts?

Seems pretty retarded to even think about that mindset, like "Haha fuck yeah I have 12,000 posts on BHW" wtf does that mean for anyones life lmao.

I don't get it.. Yes, I've seen that before, but what does that have to do with my post or anything?

EDIT: Like I get it, they need 50 posts to do that and 200 to do this, but that's still pretty retarded IMO for people to be post whores or for that to even be a thing lmao. As I said, having a million posts on BHW doesn't make you a winner at life or anything at all, so I don't understand the obsession lol.

While i am writing this i can see 6 threads in intro section with "Hello there" and TBH they all sound very similar to each other. Sure shot way to reduce this spam is to not count them.

Post count used to mean something back when we had the stars.

Kids these days just inflate their post count, and for what? PMing, Jr. VIP, but no stars.

Kids these days don't know what they're missing out on.

This generation...

They don't know...
