Just because one or two persons don't believe in reps(usually this comes from someone either with a lot of reps or nothing), it doesn't mean that the whole system is useless. I am very much concerned about this rep whoring thingy not because am jealous of it but the repercussions of it in terms of quality of posts is very visible. And encouraging this is definitely dangerous.

I know lots of members who have a rep score of maybe 100 - 200 points
yet are very active and participate/contribute often on threads. As I have
said recently, the Rep system used to work as an indicator of a member's
value on BHW, but due to abuse of the system and a few little "Rep Rings",
it can no longer be counted on. However, if you stick around BHW long
enough, you can tell who's who - without looking at the scoreboard.

I agree with your sentiment that quality SHOULD be the defining factor in giving Rep but my issue is that people have been accusing each other of being rep whores and in rep circles.
This has usually NOT been followed up with any evidence to back it up.
This in turn causes resentment and other problems which do nothing but bring the forum down.

buddy, you are really are a great candidate for moderator, that way you can investigate this further. but as for me it doesn't matter if they are making a dead poet society kind of thing as long that they won't scam someone and for those who accused blue guys that are rep whores, you guys are still innocent until proven guilty. So as long as there are no evidence, the accusation will only be deemed as increasing post count or a sympathy-getting thread.
