Renting a Uhaul method

I just thought of this idea and wonder what you guys think about it.

The method:

It costs about $40 bucks a day to rent the bigger uhaul trucks, $20 for the smaller ones.

Make a big billboard sign that covers the whole side of a uhaul truck. With your offer or advertisement on it obviously. Or make 2 for both sides, maybe a third for the back. Make them temporary and easy to take on and off while not harming the truck in any way.
Drive around the busy parts of town or park in a high traffic area at the proper angle that is most visible to all traffic ( cars and foot traffic).

What do you guys think? Could it be profitable?

Great Idea..... the ONLY flaw I see is perhaps U-Haul (or someone affiliated) saw you doing this.... what would u-haul think?
 
You could probably rent the side of most plain trucks (guys that are driving around delivering in your area) for 300 - 400.00 a month and not have to deal with U-Haul.

I know a lot of companies that do this... in fact there are companies that own trucks that have scrolling billboards in a lot of different cities.

I'm pretty familiar with this whole deal as I used to own an advertising company.
 
Good Idea and im going to try it for my business.

And i would imagine if you dont cover up ALL of the u-haul logos then there shouldnt be a problem (the will still get advertising but we are just sharing the space temporarily :D)as its my truck for the time im renting, and i can do what i wish in a LAWFUL manner, and make sure that the truck is returned in the state it was rented to me.

As with anything just read their TOS/contract just to make sure there is nothing they can nail you on and you'll be fine!
 
I live downtown Toronto and always see these big rigs driving around hauling big banners,and im guessing they would probably charge 5-10k/day,so yeah..a Uhaul truck plastered with signs for under a few hundred dollars should work,as long as you have a good offer,maybe a free ipad? :D
 
The first time I saw this type of advertising was in Las Vegas. Mostly around The Strip and surrounding areas. I did see a few in the local areas advertising payday loan stuff. Payday loans and title loans are big in Vegas.

I have moved back to Los Angeles and I have seen a few. Really surprised me since I hadn't seen them before. I grew up here, but I have been away for 15 years :)
There is a realtor near me who uses a moving billboard pretty consistently. Actively pursuing him as a offline consulting client.
 
U haul truck suck ass! Unless you like a truck that get 3-5 MPG and you are also paying mileage! I rented one a few months ago to move some things and it was nightmare! Maybe other moving companies have better trucks...

Yep, as mentioned earlier, it's best to find a local delivery company and pay them to slap an advertisement on their trucks / cube vans.

Less headaches.

There's a couple ways to approach it:

Start + test small (like 1 truck) at first, but then...
- You can make a deal with the custom graphic printer and the freight company to do multiple trucks (be sure to have a personalized CTA for testing purposes)

or

- Depending on your state laws, you can build a custom billboard frame which then has an insert printed on by the graphics guys, and then the frame screwed onto the sides of the box of the truck. Great thing about this is, every couple months or so, you can swap out the ad for another ad to test.

Obviously make a contract with them so they don't "drive off" (pun?) with your frame!

And finally, 3M makes "self-adhesive" vinyl decals that you can easily peel off after 1 year... meaning no damage to the truck/cube van.

Obviously, use your head while negotiating the terms with the owner of the companies.

Well....Down here in the South Wells Fargo Bank recently came to town. They bought out Wachovia Bank. Soon after they spent the bucks to have a city bus painted red with their logo on it.

Truck advertising has been around here for a long time. Don't forget rental storage trailers as well. They are a lot cheaper !
 
Ive seen alot of companies just park the truck at Walmart and leave it there over the weekend. Tons of people coming in and out
 
go to vegas do it for the weekend if you get in trouble claim it was a fraternity prank and you did not have a choice.....then go out celebrate get waist-ed and laid worry about it tomorrow.

put your signs over the trailer with your big-board advertisement, and if you're not gonna drive it and the cab has uhaul logos on it, just cover them up with a huge blanket or tarp.

or just get 3m mount spray as I think it was said earlier and just put that on the back of your advertisements and cover up all uhaul logos...

no one from uhaul is gonna say anything, odds are no one from uhaul will be within 5 miles of that truck. (unless of course u park it next door to uhaul, in which case you are awesome for that!) if some is from uhaul and sees it they're not gonna know it's their truck. If they are that good, then you definitely owe the person and or the company money cause the guy that knows that it's his truck is a man among men.
 
That's a cheap way to advertise but as always location is key where ever u decide to park the truck
