Hi all,
at newwpthemes.com they got really great themes and i just found a perfect theme for my project, but sadly they got 4 advertising link sin the footer which cant be removed. If i remove them or only change one letter from the footer Text, my main domain is redirected to mydomain.com/index.php?theme_license=true
where a black text tells me:
"This theme is released free for use under creative commons licence. All links in the footer should remain intact. These links are all family friendly and will not hurt your site in any way. This great theme is brought to you for free by these supporters."

Does anyone knows how to remove those links?
thanks a lot Unknown1111

often it's simply in the footer.php but as their disclaimer tells, it really doesn't hurt ;-)

pah :D it isnt even possible to make the links nofollow, so they hurt a lot :P

the decrypted function in the functions.php is:
if (!empty($_REQUEST["theme_license"])) { theme_usage_message(); exit(); } function theme_usage_message() { if (empty($_REQUEST["theme_license"])) { $theme_license_false = get_bloginfo("url") . "/index.php?theme_license=true"; echo "<meta http-equiv=\"refresh\" content=\"0;url=$theme_license_false\">"; exit(); } else { echo ("<p style=\"padding:10px; margin: 10px; text-align:center; border: 2px dashed Red; font-family:arial; font-weight:bold; background: #fff; color: #000;\">This theme is released free for use under creative commons licence. All links in the footer should remain intact. These links are all family friendly and will not hurt your site in any way. This great theme is brought to you for free by these supporters.</p>"); } }

In the header the decrypted part is:
function functions_file_exists() { if (!file_exists(dirname(__file__) . "/functions.php") || !function_exists("theme_usage_message") ) { echo ("<p style=\"padding:10px; margin: 10px; text-align:center; border: 2px dashed Red; font-family:arial; font-weight:bold; background: #fff; color: #000;\">This theme is released free for use under creative commons licence. All links in the footer should remain intact. These links are all family friendly and will not hurt your site in any way. This great theme is brought to you for free by these supporters.</p>"); die; } } functions_file_exists();

can anyone help me with changing it?

Hi nativepro,

Very helpful post, but I still don't have the idea to change the code, because I am not a programmer.

Could you tell me what code should I change in the function.php :

if (!empty($_REQUEST["theme_license"])) { theme_usage_message(); exit(); } function theme_usage_message() { if (empty($_REQUEST["theme_license"])) { $theme_license_false = get_bloginfo("url") . "/index.php?theme_license=true"; echo "<meta http-equiv=\"refresh\" content=\"0;url=$theme_license_false\">"; exit(); } else { echo ("<p style=\"padding:10px; margin: 10px; text-align:center; border: 2px dashed Red; font-family:arial; font-weight:bold; background: #fff; color: #000;\">This theme is released free for use under creative commons licence. All links in the footer should remain intact. These links are all family friendly and will not hurt your site in any way. This great theme is brought to you for free by these supporters.</p>"); } }

thanks

nativepro, can u show what you did with the theme that got the footer encryption removed?

sevenheavenxs - If you still need help, let me know...just saw your post. You need to decode the next set of encrypted code - it contains the links.

sebestian - In functions.php, you need to decrypt the code and you should get this:

Code:
function check_theme_footer() { $uri = strtolower($_SERVER["REQUEST_URI"]); if(is_admin() || substr_count($uri, "wp-admin") > 0 || substr_count($uri, "wp-login") > 0 ) { /* */ } else { $l = '<a href="http://www.google.com/">Changed the footer</a>'; $f = dirname(__file__) . "/footer.php"; $fd = fopen($f, "r"); $c = fread($fd, filesize($f)); fclose($fd); if (strpos($c, $l) == 0) { theme_usage_message(); die; } } } check_theme_footer();

Whatever links and text you edit in the above code, you also need to edit in the footers.php to make sure it is the same:

Code:
     // All links in the footer should remain intact.
            // These links are all family friendly and will not hurt your site in any way.
            // Warning! Your site may stop working if these links are edited or deleted ?>
        <div id="footer2"><a href="http://www.google.com/">Changed the footer</a></div>

The link and text must match exactly!

Let me know if you guys have any questions or need more help.

Hi Nativepro,

Thank you so much for the reply post. It worked.

Would you be able to tell if there is other malicious codes in the theme?

Thank you so much. You have made my day!

i haven't really looked much more into the code - if you run into problems with something else, let me know and i'll take a look at it.

Hi nativepro. I tried decrypting the whole file to no avail. How do I find it?

What are you looking for? This is an old thread, but I think I covered everything in my prior posts. Just let me know what "it" is, and I'd be glad to help you out.

This tip doesn't seem to work for their newer themes, they have probably changed the way the footer is encrypted. Can anyone help me with the decryption?

Have you tried the browser method of converting the footer back to normal HTML ?
Might work, worth a try though.

Make a backup of your footer.php first.

Open footer.php with the Wordpress editor and wrap the whole thing in start/end comments like...

<!--Start Footer-->
footer.php content blabla yadayadayada...
<!--End Footer-->

... so that the first and last lines are the start/end comments.

Then save it and load the website in your browser.
Hit CTRL-U (view source) and find your start and finish points near the bottom where your footer starts, then copy the whole of the HTML content between...

<!--Start Footer-->
This will all now show as normal HTML !!!
<!--End Footer-->

...to your clipboard.

Now go back to your Wordpress editor and replace ALL of the footer.php text with the new sourced HTML and save it.

You should now have a plain HTML version of the original footer that you can play with, edit links etc etc.

Hope it works...
