Do you honestly think amazon gives a fuck? They are a massive corp, they can do whatever they want and suckers will still come to them.
They just not bothering with petty stuff like that, but not because "don't want to risk their reputation", but because, right now, they just couldn't care less.
But they can start doing shady stuff any day.

And initially and renewals are all $8.95

I can confirm that, they log everything. I have lookup one day, a domain in GoDaddy no one had registrated since days! In the evening 0:00, something had happen..
Someone had already registrated the domain, I was to bought!

This happened to me twice! I don't trust in GoDaddy and other companies affiliate with them, EIG Company (check list)

Be careful, GoDaddy seems to log when you search for domain and if have value or high backlinks they will register.
 
Yes they do it very often, they have smart domain registrars that detect how much important is that domain and then mark it premium after sometime when you recheck. If you search please note purchase it on the same day otherwise you can face the same issue.
 
Godaddy been doing this for years. Give it a couple of days and you'll find it at the regular price again.
 
Never search and domain and leave it for registering later

That's called Front Running and not ethical to follow using the user search data

Ah makes sense now, that's why i don't use godaddy
without mentioning the harassing you go through (10 calls a day) to renew the domain
 
This is well known. GoDaddy have been doing this for years now- you're lucky they didn't squat the domain TBH, unless they were forced to change that.

I've never had a problem with NameCheap (touch wood)
Using for 5+ years or so now
