I'd slave for BHW for a letter of recommendation, being 22 years of age and having 3 days of work on my resume is really making everything difficult for me. I never learned how to make a resume, even..

Looks like if you were selling drugs and got busted they are not interested but I would think there are exceptions to the rule if you can make a decent case for them to consider you.

Go ahead and apply if it fits your time/location/etc.

All they can do is say no.

Yeah I think from my understanding they have the right to say no if you was arrested for drugs, sexual assault or violence. Agree with @BassTrackerBoats all they can say is no, I know no sucks if you have it 10 times over but part of that is about perseverance as well.

I'll go with @BassTrackerBoats as well and say if you need a letter or recommendation or something ill hire you from your BST and my company will give you a reference then if you like.

I'm in server/networking role, cbtnuggets.com is the place to go for courses, it's recognized everywhere in IT and some top end companies actually use it to train their employees. It's basically all we use to climb the career. Some other providers too, but cbtnuggets is the most recognized.

If your new to IT, start the A+ cert, then move onto either Azure (Cloud) or CCNA (Networking)

If you're trying to make a good impression for the courts - do some volunteering. Get your face out there and be seen doing good stuff for your community. You won't make money from it but it will definitely open some doors and earn you respect - especially if you try to push whatever cause you volunteer forward by organising events for it etc. Take photos of you doing stuff and post all over social media. It has literally changed my life by bringing me in contact with influential people (plus the feelgood factor is good for my soul!)

It's usually beneficial for the society that all members that are part of it can be attached to the "normal" life. For that reason, where I live at least, there are systems in place so that those who have had some difficulties in life can have another go. Especially since you're still a young man.

One way to find out easily is to connect with the people who deal with drugs and education, they more than likely will know some ways to get into education. When you apply you should put some weight on the fact that you're recovering/doing something to change your life so they will see that you're motivated.

I don't know how your local schooling system works, but here government pays for the schools that have graduated students. That is the reason why the schools prefer motivated students and not just take in anyone.

So as you have good gentlemen here who can provide you with recommendations and such, I'd use that to show that you're putting active effort in and really want to learn. It will make them more comfortable to let you in.

I personally started from apprenticeship equal in Finland. There is some abuse of the system, but if it works in the same way you just have to get along with the business owner. A good impression will help a lot. If it works the same way there, you will first have to find a place that would take you as an apprentice. After that local education could arrange a school spot.

I'm writing this after work, but I hope I made some sense. My first trick would be using the local drug recovery services as they have all the connections that you need, most of the time they wish that they could use them.

No problem mate, I spent 6 months on CBT nuggets, and overtook people in my career who had 3 years in computer science at university.

Honestly, the state education system is an absolute joke when it comes to the IT career, avoid it at all costs. Private providers like CBTnuggets are so much more ahead of the game than the state education systems.

Managers prefer self-trained rather than education system, as self-trained = passion + ability to self learn without being spoon fed. I haven't come across one manager who prefers a university student.

Same thing man.

You can do well with copywriting, and as someone who's native English you can probably jump straight into it and at least do a half decent job. Over time you'll improve just by doing it man, and there's no shortage of work out there for you too.

You don't need permission from anyone, work for yourself. Really good way to get off the bottom step fast. Vigilante is on the money with that one.

Also if you want to develop another skill that's super monetisable and will allow you to earn a lot of money irrespective of shit from your past, you should start getting into programming and development bro.

It's always a bit of an uphill climb for the first few weeks/months, but things will start to fall into place and you'll never be short of work if you can code.

There's some really good free courses online, but also really good MOOCs too like Coursera where you will have everything from start to finish taught to you. Maybe 3 months or 6 months down the line, you can dive into programming work that's pretty simple, but over time you'll pick it up quicker by doing it and then will be able to earn $$$.
